With the hubs there are to different ball joint sizes. One been 16mm and the other been 18mm. The early cars you will find normally come with 16mm hubs. The springs will sit differently due to the weight of both engines.

Nope. Got both a 1.4 and HDi...the shafts are substantially bigger and don't forget the 1.4 box is different to the BE type HDi box.

But does the drive shaft of a hdi fit through the centre of a 1.4 hub?

Pretty sure it will mate yes.
