Andyyy's 1.9 DT 205 Cherry Red VNT
#31
Hasn't been much progress lately as iv been very busy with my job and my daily has been giving me endless issues but I'm now not too busy for a while and the daily has been fixed and passed its test so things will hopefully get moving again

Only update for now is iv fitted a high flow thermostat (came all the way from australia )

So that should help with cooling

Yeah I'm not sure if it's any good tbh but I needed one anyway and saw that so went for it 30℅ more flow should help better than a lower temp one in theory if it does show any actual gains I don't know yet

Got mine on eBay - a lot more than the cheepest ones but same sorta price pug want for one

Thanks

Still loads to do and waiting on lots of parts

Clutch arrived today which made me realise that I don't have the bolts that hold the clutch to the fly wheel so will need to source some

Iv still got to get / do
new gearbox as the old one was shagged before the old engine gave up
Weld the exhaust manifold up (waiting on the pipe hopefully this week)
Get some injectors as the old engine went " missing "
Tidy up the loom
Fit the stdt dial wire them up
Get a radiator and another slimline fan
Sort out the interior which is now a mess
Sand and polish the car haven't touched the car since the respray and the filler sunk so that needs sorting too
Weld up the rest of the exhaust - completely stait through no back box
I'm going to lower the temp the fans kick in but that's all worked out just need parts
The old battery decided that it would leak all of its acid out the other day so replacing that
Finish smoothing and painting the exterior trim
And of course fit it all
Probably plenty iv missed so still plenty to keep me busy

Anyway I got a Sachs clutch as they haven't let me down in the past so hoping that it will hold up to the new turbo

I dunno about the loom would it get the stdt clocks going ? I think my loom has all the wiring already there obviously cant test any of it at the moment but I can't remember so I'll have to get back to you on that

You have Base model clocks which are far different to stdt clocks.
The amount of plugs are the same, the pin outs should be as well

Yeah iv got base model clocks fitted in the car and iv got some stdt clocks to go in it I heard people have issues with the rev counter so was going to wire it in from the sensor my self just need to find a diagram to figure out how as all the rest should be plug and play I think

The actual plugs on the back of the loom for Base model clocks aren't compatible with the stdt clocks.
I've just done the same conversion myself a few weeks back.
I've been messing around with 205's for bloody ages, if you need any bits or advice just ask. Got loads of parts lying about

So thought I put some photos up of the stdt clocks as were all talking about them

The plug for the rev counter

And the plug from the sensor
[Image: IMG_20140821_172148416_zpsljmwh8wq.jpg]

I also have a sensor with a brown plug somewhere which I think is the one that will plug into my loom / was plugged in before

The plug for the Rev counter is blue, either 3 or 4 wires going to it.

Do you want this gti loom? The plugs will got straight on and you won't need to worry about manually wiring up the Rev counter.
You just need to take the dash out and swap the loom like for like. I'll give you a hand doing if you want.

And like I said the base model loom is completely incompatible with gti/stdt clocks

Got your message mate, that's no problem

Yeah if I notice any difference I'll say I'll probably get a OEM one to swap out and test it against once its all up and running I doubt it will do anything to be honest but I'd like to prove my self wrong lol

Yeah I think I'll need tbh let me know what you want for it Smile

Not much progress again due to other things getting in the way but did manage to tap a hose tail into the manifold for the boost controller

Might tap another one in to go to the compensator on the pump and the inlet adaptor I'm getting at the end of the week looks like it has one (thanks paul) to go to the boost gauge so should be able to keep it all separate and tidy without any t pieces which will be neater

With any luck at the end of the week I can get the car to the work shop and start sanding cutting and polishing and dropping the engine in

Manged to get some time today in between things to start sorting out an exhaust

decided that making a whole manifold would take to long and that would be a future addition once the car is done

but i still wanted to gearbox mount the turbo so i set about and this is what i came up with

started off by making the piece going to the turbo

Then decided i should work from the engine to the turbo not the other way round

Holesaw died Sad so started stitch drilling

Then the drill bit i was using snapped so only got that far with drilling today

so moved on to welding some more pipe up

I know its not massive progress but atleast its some

I now need to get some more drills bits so have given up for today and hopefully get some drill bits tomorrow
