Another which car? thread

Love 944s, adore 190es, all great suggestions from Liam... Tbh apart from the Mk3 love, Liam has a pretty impeccable taste in cars... His taste in music ain't bad either!

Only one in that list I wouldn't take is the Capri, but of you like the idea of a Muscle car in a ford shell, the Capri is the closest you'll get... The Capri just needs an epic engine to go with, the V6 makes a racket but isn't worthy enough, needs a big Jap V8 imo, if I wanted something to make me feel like a proper man, a Capri with a big Jap V8 would be epic!

Ha cheers dude! Thing with my selections as well is they should all hold their money as well Smile

You should try my mates Capri with a Winsor 302, it's the engine the Capri should have had from the factory. The V6 is decent though, their not a heavy car. I've always fancied dropping in a 24v 2.9 from a Granada Cosworth, 200bhp is more like it.

In a straight line at least mate, a Corrado is definitely quicker than a '6, remember its the 2.9 with 193bhp not the 2.8 with 174bhp...

My 6' will keep in front of my mates vr6 mk3 which was dyno'd at 184bhp up to stupid speeds..... and if you involve corners there's just no contest haha

I also heard though that apparently your 6 is faster than a Bugatti veryon until 204mph and if it gets to the twistes.....well there's just no competition

In fairness, Corrados aren't that quick... They're pretty darned heavy vs a GTi6...

No most of mine are new. It's definitely the cps. I've got the one off the 1.8 which was only a few years old but after having the car since may and the problem getting worse and worse, I still haven't changed it. Might do it when it breaks down lol

Mines been near eds too much. It's become a hypochondriac and is just acting like a general twat.

I'm sorry dude, I hate to be the pain in the arse who argues this but your mate must be a shite driver or have an auto. Bear in mind though the Corrado has a lot more power and torque than the Golf, hence 0-60 in 6.7 to the Golfs 7.4. And in the twisties a Corrado is every bit as good as a 306, it's a mk2 Golf front suspension setup and Passat at the back, it's FAR better than a mk3 Golf.

On a side note, I really want a VR6 Corrado...

Nope, not a shite driver, he's been driving longer than i have! It's a 5 speed manual.. Also Andy was in my passenger seat and another mate of mine in the vr's passenger seat.. He didn't even start to gain anything until about 130.. bare in mind that was also before i had the de-cat fitted, Andy can verify all the above Tongue

^My mums been driving longer than I have and I wouldn't exactly call her a good driver...

I do agree though, any vr6 acceleration videos I've seen aren't that great tbh...
Unless they have a tuned 1.8 20v t in them...

Fair enough, maybe I've driven some mint VR6 Golfs and some knackered '6s then, but I still maintain that a Corrado VR6 will outdrag a '6, we weren't talking about Golfs after all...

I had another idea as well, surely a mk3 Supra Twin Turbo would be in that price range?

Fair point, i was just using it as an example, being more powerful than a standard vr golf anyway Smile

I expect it would be.. although i doubt you'd find a manual in that price range! Mmmmm.... supra tt <3

Great list of cars Liam and in an ideal world i'd probably own every one of them!

Unfortunately the age of most of them makes owning one less attractive, good ones are very hard to find and fast commanding ridiculous money, especially the mkII Golf valvers etc.

The overpriced ones are a minefield of rust, tatty interiors and tired engines which will more than likely require thousands ££ to get back to a decent state.

I tried looking for golf II 16v's before getting the 6 and in the end decided they were very over-priced and would likely require more money to maintain than a 6. It's a shame as I completely agree about the feedback, nimbleness and style of an 80's car.

'Rado is no doubt a very cool car though.

Hate to say it mate, but a 306 GTi6 would fit your scenario rather well, don't you think?

(genuinely trying not to be biased BTW lol )

Nice "grass is greener" idea, but it will be a barsteward to keep on the road.

E30 318is, cheap, great handling, cool as, m-tech spec, appreciating and when the engine goes bang drop in the e36 2.8 easily modded to 220ish. Will be getting one for 'Sundays' as soon as.

Why even bother with the 18is? If you're going to be getting a bimmer might as well get one with a big lump to begin with, they aren't exactly expensive nowadays

You would be a hero for running it as a daily though, bet the mpg would be savage.

Actually, 328s aren't that bad. My mate has a 328i auto Touring that I borrowed for a while, I managed 24mpg round town and 38mpg on a run, that's not bad for a 2.8 6-pot auto with nigh on 200bhp. Was really nice actually, cruise, heated leather, and the smoothest autobox I've ever used...

What about a manual 328i Sport? Could get a mint one for £2500?
