Can you actually drive a car with no mot.
If I pick up a car with no mot from London, and book an mot at the garage by my house, would I be able to drive legally? It will have tax an insurence obs

It's a little bit of a grey area with distance, but if it's booked in and you have proof of this then I would go for it.

Bit of a grey area, but if you got pulled, they might think you were taking the piss a bit... I've been.pulled with my mot out for 2 weeks and didn't get fined or anything, but Id say i was extremely unlucky... and im not taking the piss, but you've had 2 section 59s... they probably wouldn't hesitate to take the car straight off you, as it doesn't matter what car you're in, the section 59 is issued to you

if its booked in for the mot then by law you can only drive it on that day and only to the mot station. saying that ive never heard of anyone just getting done for no mot. last year i drove round for nearly 2 months without mot. oops. my bad.

Depends really, I'd say if you had it booked at Lynx, as they're a specialist of sorts for 306s he might get away with it. That said, I get the impression Mr Matt here is not looking at a 306...

Other thing is, that specialist thing won't work. Don't forget mot prices are capped and there are no specialist mots. And it's not like you can say that one particular garage does a better job than another.

True, but most people (the average driver) books their car in for a service and MOT together (doesn't matter how far you drive it in a year, once a year is what is needs apparently ) so that could swing it.

Thing is they'd probably realise he's trying to get around getting an MOT on it by using that rule.

Safer option: Get the seller to put an MOT on it, and pay extra if necessary.

No, I spoke to a VOSA guy who said for the "driving to/from a prebooked MOT" to work it has to be booked in to the nearest MOT station. Also, when they ask who owns the car, and you say "I've just bought it..." ?

If the car is insured to be driven with no mot or tax, you can drive it as far as you like, aslong as you are going to or from a pre booked mot, i researched this indepth a few months ago

Use, cause or permit a vehicle to be used on a road without a test certificate is an offence under Section 47, RTA 1988.
Penalty: Fine of up to £2,500 (if the vehicle has 8 or more seats), £1,000 (otherwise). No disqualification, endorsement or points can be awarded.

Re no MOT invalidating Insurance; Because of section 148 RTA 1988
as to condition of the vehicle, Insurance Companies cannot invalidate a certificate issued as far as making it a criminal offence i.e. to use without Insurance (S145). This does not not however prevent them from taking action to recover certain costs under the civil court.
