Fitted my oil cooler. Started the car. Lost all the oil.
Loosened and refitted the sandwhich plate.

 Refilled car with oil

Started the car. Pissed out oil.

Removed sandwhich plate. Fitted genuine pug oil filter.

Started car. Nothing. Car isn't cranking.

Fuel pump is priming. All wiring was sprayed and cleaned with IGA, electro lube. The oil leaked from the sand which block, down the front of the sump and to the floor.

When I turn the key to turn it over, interior clock dies. Stop light stays on throuout operation. All wiring checked and seems okay. Everything is clean, attached, and secured.

I've got all week to try and fix it.

Please helpful suggestions and ideas. I'm thoroughly upset at how such a simple job could end in tears.

 Thanks

How would it go flat during an oil change? Could I use the known good battery out my hdi to check or would this be an issue?
And besides. I'm getting all the interior lights... If it was too dead to crank it'd be too dead for lighting

Not always sean. Dead batteries can do funny things. You probably left the door open (although the interior light switches off after 10 mins to stop this) or left the ignition on.

boot open = light constantly on. And unless Ed took it off, the battery on there is a virtually new S5 iirc

I've not tried anything yet. I'm at work till 3. Will be trying a different battery later.
Ill check the lock/unlock with all doors shut forst though.

I so hope it is just the battery!

If your boot was open for 6 hours, I'd be inclined to agree with the battery being the culprit. I left my doors open for about an hour while doing my clutch cable, and that left me with a flat battery.

to clarify, the Battery is a) less than 6months old, and b) is a Bosch silvertop, so a fecking good battery.
It is however probably quite low on charge, as it wasn't run for a few weeks prior to Sean picking it up (I had to jump it from my Gran's Beemer the day before you came to collect Sean, but I gave it a good run after that to get some charge in it...)

If you've had the boot open for ages though, I'd almost put money on the battery being flat as a pancake.

Stick it on tricklecharge, and get the hdi battery in there as a temporary measure.

If the battery is fubard (doubt it but just in case), I have the halfords receipt for the warranty; you can get a new one FOC.

 Love you bbz x

		Could do with that receipt!
I'm doubtful as all interior lighting and stereo works.

But I'm gonna grab a fluke from work and test it before I strap the hdi battery to it.

Can get it charged at work so that's no dramas.

I need to have some good luck with this car soon!

I'm doing everything properly and by the book and everything's going wrong! The hdi was bodge after bodge and never failed me!

Sean, the oil cooler is a bit of a pain to do. Just relax man, it'll sort itself out
Have you checked the live to the starter? Is the starter definitely working? Does the engine turn over? did you do any other work on the car at the same time as the cooler which could be responsible for causing the engine not to turn over?
the starter motor could be kaput in fairness, I dunno how to check this, anyone?

@ Piggy, no, OEM alarm.

check live feed and signal wire to starter...if both ok.wack starter..if this doesnt work, replace starter...
if 12v feed but no signal, check fuses, battery and ignition and earths...
if no 12v feed or signal. check battery.

just attach the hdi battery with jumper cables and see what happens

Sean, text/call me I'll not be able to check this a lot for the rest of the day.
If the battery is dead there's a significant chance there will be nothing when you turn the key; it did the same when I tried to start it after it was sat.

Let me know after 3 when you're in front of it x

Just jump the bloody thing and take it for a run, it'll most likely be fine. There's a chance the HDi battery won't fit in the battery box as it'll be bigger

I had a similar problem mate; oil had splashed after fitting a plate on the 205. issue was oil splashed over the starter shorting it.
i'd recommend disconnecting the starter; its easy enough, clean up all the terminals, whilst charging the battery up, and make sure the alternator terminals are clean/dry also..
