Radio change

Morning all,

I have decided to replace the standard Peugeot Clarion with an old after market head unit I still have at my parents.... (still better quality than the standard unit!)

My car has a steering column control for the radio, do I need any additional wiring to keep the functionality of this? Can honestly say it has been a while since I messed about with ICE.

I don't know many that have wired up the stalk to an aftermarket HU. For whatever reason, I think it's a bit of a pig to do

That is what I was afraid of..... ripped my mates head unit out of his Clio after it was written off and he had his professionally wired in to use the stalk..... so many wires and boxes we gave up salvaging the loom in the end!

You can buy adapters off eBay Halfords ect if your stereo supports it but they arnt cheap

Yeah you'll need and adapter but you need your new head unit to support this function too.

I just took the stalk out of mine, couldn't be bothered with faffing around with trying to get it to work with my head unit.

Adapters are £15 as long as your new hu supports the function it's a peice of piss to sort!

or buy a HU with a stalk...pioneer do a few

I've found my stalk is a bit 'jittery' in use though, go to get the volume up and it skips tracks...

It's plug-and-play if you buy the correct adaptor? I'm struggling to see where the difficulty lies!

I've found my stalk is a bit 'jittery' in use though, go to get the volume up and it skips tracks...

I also had this problem with two stalks (the others were ok though). One day it completely broke though, just kept turning the volume up to max despite manually turning it down on the HU, not ideal while trying to drive through a small village late at night! Just had to turn the stereo off and leave it off until I could unplug the stalk lol.

As for the difficulty, the most difficult part is fitting all the extra wiring in behind the stereo/heater panel lol.
