Been saving ever since my Golf got wrote off, decided I wanted to spend a decent amount of money on a car for once and get something a bit more modern and reliable than my usual 500 quid bangers
Thought about a few different VAG cars, all with the 1.8 turbo engine. Looked at A3s, A4s, Leons, Golfs and Boras, but everything in my price range was a bit rough. Also the A4 and Bora are saloons which are a pain in the arse when you've got a dog, and the Golf and A3 are a bit small...

Anyway, went to look at an A3 at a VAG specialist in Huddersfield. The A3 was a dog, but the guy asked if I'd be interested in an Octavia VRS. Much better condition, bigger, hatchback, 180 bhp rather than 150 bhp, more kit, and without the "c*ck" image of the Audi ![[Image: IMG_0469.jpg]](http://i768.photobucket.com/albums/xx328/annegg5511/IMG_0469.jpg) ![[Image: IMG_0468.jpg]](http://i768.photobucket.com/albums/xx328/annegg5511/IMG_0468.jpg)
Full service history with loads of receipts, mint interior, just had new brakes, cambelt and water pump, new turbo at 90k, new clutch at 78k, now on 108k. Full MOT, totally standard and un-ragged, climate, electric everything and all working, just a few little marks on the body and a bit of kerbing on the alloys, but drives absolutely perfect, pulls like an animal
Only cost me 2 grand, and I even got 400 quid part ex on the Calibra which is 100 quid more than I paid

Definitely keeping this at least a year

I'd have swapped the Calibra for it in a second! Get one mate, much cheaper than the other VAGs with the same engine and older blokes tend to drive them so their usually well cared for

I'm thinking sleeper, don't even wanna lower it really as it's pretty low already to be fair. Maybe refurb the wheels black or fit some new wheels, and tint the windows, then concentrate on the engine. Good exhaust, enclosed induction kit, KO4 turbo upgrade, a bigger intercooler and an aggressive remap can see 300-350 bhp apparently :o

It does mate, not that quick off the line because it's quite heavy (0-60 is about 7.5 in the book I think), but from 30-70 it's just immense! As part of the deal the place I bought it from will remap it for half price, so if I stick a decent induction kit on it as well that should manage between 200-210 bhp

I might actually be buying another car before the end of the week! Got a text during the night from my mate wanting to sell his 16v XSI for 300 quid, it's lowered 40mm with '6 brakes, can't help but think it would make an awesome track slag...

There's also injectors, FPR and other stuff to take into account. But a K04 will be out of puff way before 300, you need to look into BT'ing for that. Anything past 300 and you're also pushing your luck with the rods...

I'd stick with the K03S or go big turbo personally, the general consensus is that the K04 just isn't worth it.

Have fun though.

To be honest dude, it's that quick as it is I'll probably leave it a while
Picked it up this morning, thrashed it back from Slaithwaite, little bit of M62, then driving it round Leeds in traffic I've averaged 31 mpg, and I've been giving it plenty of stick as well, chuffed with that! It drives amazing, really flat and nimble through bends with plenty of feedback, loads of torque on boost, cruises great and it even rides pretty well, can't fault it at all

Bloody engine management light came on today while I was taking it for it's first proper ragging! Apparently it's a very common problem on Octavias, they have crap sensors that fail a lot, but more often then not you plug them into VAGCOM and there's no codes, and then start it back up to find the light has gone out, but combined with the fact that it's taking a while to warm up from cold I reckon it's the thermostat or coolant temp sensor, or maybe both. Gonna see if I can get the dealer to take care of it but I doubt it, cheap parts though so not a problem if they won't. Ordered a code reader as well off eBay, apparently this issue comes up a lot...

Just spoke to the dealer I bought it from, their gonna fix the broken seat adjuster, EML, temp sensor and fit me a new thermostat all for nothing. I wasn't even bothered about the thermostat really, that's only a tenner
