Forged Xud vs M-HDI
#1
Just wondering which way is the scene moving for reliable power?

Is there more MHdi builds now besides darrenjlob.

Is there a pump setup that works well now?

Considering going down the forged route, but a mhdi would be different. Maybe a smoother sounding engine rather than having a diesel knocking xud.

Ive came across a thread in a c2 forum where a guy was building a 2.2 mhdi but no mention of pump setup. Aiming for 240bhp.

I can only imagine what that would be like in my 205 TMI

Personally for relaible power id go where everyone else seems to be heading down the fully hdi route. The m-tdi is doable, im just sore about it as i bent a rod doing it after weeks of work to get a running car. Mtdi still wont give great refinment though as its still only a single stage/dual stage injection. Much like xud.

So my 2 p is hdi or xud with forged rods unless you wanna track it hard

Interesting Perspective

The only reason I thought of doing MHDI over HDI was the wiring and reliability.

Assuming the DW12 Block is the same as a DW10, therefore the same as an xud and will bolt directly into the 205 and any be box.

But wiring that into a 205 loom to get all the clocks working! Not an easy job id imagine!

I was just having a read of this thread,

The last setup was a 2.2 16v head on a dw10 block.

300tdi injectors and supporting pump work.

Is there anyone running a similar setup on here?

DW12 block wont allow a BE box to be bolted to it. Hence using the DW10 and whatever BE3/4 you want to use.

Ahh o.k ! Makes Sense

What members are running these 2.0 16v MHDI motors?

Wiring for a stock Commonrail HDi is very simple to be honest, using a loom from a single plug 306 keeps them very self contained along with an unlocked ECU... If done right, you need simply one wire to make the engine run - the main battery feeds are all the same otherwise.

Personally wouldn't bother now with mechanical pumped HDis - there's so much information on the stock HDi ECUs to make them run independently of other body systems, there's no point in the faff.. Not to mention they've got vastly greater control.

So basically you just need the engine loom from the hdi which can be ran separately so there is no need to join looms together.

Basic enough so!

I was having a look at the rr bible in the hdi section, nothing impressive in there.

What sort of power are they capable of with a 16v head, decent turbo?

What injection system is used? standard or upgraded?

Problem everyone runs into is how much fuel you can get through the injectors. The 16v has a diffrent plane angle and allows more injector choice for nozzles. But hey are expensive which means not many people do it. Which is a shame.

So is that why people use the ve pump I take it?

Cheap and reliable!

People mainly use the VE as it's easier to turn a few screws and do some pump mods to be able to tune it yourself rather than learning to map EDC15

Who hear has stood in front of a MHDI? Does it sound as refined as a HDI?

Or does it clatter like an xud?

I built one, its in between the xud and hdi. The injection on the setup i made was only two stage injection.

Thats a basic setup of how i done it

And thats it running very briefly

Darren knows way more than i do regarding this as well. He had to help me to get the advance curve right. Was a bit fiddly but did run well in the end

Will try and comment on this later this evening when I have time, some good points made but could probably add another viewpoint / perspective on the topic..
