Dash camera... £15 ?!
#1
So I spotted a friends dash cam, £12 he said, amazing he said, great quality he said.

So I thought I would join the band wagon and get one.

It arrived, it was 'ok'. Trialed it and the quality is shocking. Cant read any numberplates at ANY distance!
So I've sent it back...

Problem is there are SO many choices around and under £15 which ALL say "hd 1080p" etc... Like this one did.

Anyone reccomend one that is actually tried and tested??

G1W is the cheapest decent camera I've found.

I've replaced it with my SJ4000wifi though which I've hardwired into the car.

I'll be putting a G1W in the works van though.

Cheers for the link, my mates been needing one for ages.
He spends hours regaling everyone with various driving storys, we need to get him a dash cam so he can just whittle it down to a few short videos/

I've recently bought a GS8000L for £30. I was a little disappointed when it arrived but the image quality has surprised me. I was expecting a poor image but it is actually OK. I've got in my work van and had wired to the fuse box so messing around.

I have had chance to compare with a £180 model from Halfords. I've forgot the name! But the image quality is better on the Halfords cam. It's a smoother image less glare and doesn't white out as much. But I'm not prepared to spend the extra £150. Cheap dash cams FTW.

Does that have a function to save footage on the button and overwrite? Or are you simply just recording everything?

Same as any Dashcam, it fills the memory card up and then overwrites.. Starts recording as soon as 12v is fed to it.

Records sound too yup.

Not thought about hardwiring the SJ piggy? Just remove it when you want to use it elsewhere? It's what I do now in one of our cars

I tend to use the SJ in the 306 but I want something hardwired in the 206 that i can just leave and forget about.

Good point about the SJ tho, as you can put it on 5min/10min intervals. May hardwire it into the 306

Yup you can set the genuine SJ to function exactly as any other Dashcam.

Depends if you want the wifi version or not..

Wifi:

Non wifi:

Or there's the new SJ5000 but I have no experience of them..

I have the SJ4000 wifi hard wired to my car & it's been perfect. Foxoffer are one of the only genuine sellers & although they ship from China, mine took approx 4 days to arrive.

The wifi one probably isn't worth the extra, it's good to have your phone as a viewfinder and to watch clips back but downloading clips takes bloody ages & barely ever actually saves them.

Apart from that they're an awesome camera, the issue is the app not the cam anyway.

Mini 0803 or newer. For the price can't beat it and abit more discrete then the gopro looking SJxxxx in my opinion

Piglet if your spending £16 be prepared for an absolute pile of wank camera setup lol

Genuine SJcam & kit is circa £50 which is a bargain for the product and peace of mind in event of an accident!

I've just put my dash cam back in, it annoys me but I've just had another 2 very near misses today (one kinda my fault avoiding someone else and nearly clipping another car, the other was a lady tried to run me off the road (slow lane) so she could undertake another car...that one cant have been my fault! Confused ). So yeah I've decided it's probably a good idea to keep one in now! lol

Need to piggy back mine off the fusebox for a hardwire though, as the lighter sockets are permanently live in the Focus.
