Team orange engine bay..

Is this because the headgasket has gone/heads cracked? ..Pressurising the coolant and thus painting the bay orange?

My car doesn't overheat, infact i have a 'cooler' thermostat on that keeps temps at 73ish degrees. But if i reaaally rag it - the coolant starts steaming out of the expansion tank/rad area so i have to top up 0.5L every few days. Temp stays constant though and doesn't go over 90ish. Have checked the rad, no leaks (i think?) and the cap appears to seal well. If i drive steady off boost, say on a mway cruise, it uses fk all and is fine - no water evaporating. When it does steam, people at the lights give me horrified looks.. thinking my cars on fire! It might be a coincidence, but i think it started to do this not long after trying to jet wash the matrix pipes. Don't think it had anything to do with it though, apart from maybe causing a small hole in rad?

My engine bay has been orange for a while, so i guess i am a member of this team! yay

HG blowing slightly probably, whats it like when you take the cap off while the cars started?... if the heads cracked it will aboslutely PISS water out... but if not it'll just pressurise everytime you come on boost... pushing all the water out the expansion tank.

Normal i guess, car reaches temp and a little bit of standard evap as the temp rises. You mean if the head was cracked, water would be thrown out of the exp tank on idle? Makes sense.

The HG was done about 20k ago now, previous owner had it done with a slight skim on head. No idea about gasket/head bolts that were used but it's doing well at ~35psi. Drives ok appart from the major steaming! Could just try tightening the headbolts, worth a shot?

Welcome to the club, you need to update your sig........ this is what mine was doing and does sometimes but not very often currently.

If you give it death for a bit the top rad hose was going hard and it was emptying the header tank everywhere, i think more boost than the gauge reads isn't helping much TBH lol

lmao

it will be gasket blowing I would think but as Dave says really, cracked head would be bad news.

I suppose I can be part of the team too,
My engine bay is currently covered in coolant after the headgasket blowing which is orange, no doubt it will turn to rust soon too which will still be orange!
On the 306 waiting list.
