Halfords socket sets
#31
Main thing that winds me up about Halfords tools is the usual

9mm
10mm
12mm
13mm
14mm
17mm
21mm

Where the feck are the ones inbetween!!! I'd rather buy multiple sets which have everything in tbh, then I can go "I want the half inch 13mm socket", to which I open my half inch set and go straight in, rather than rooting about, finding that the set has random sizes for some not others etc... That's probably me being a bit OCD mind!

Not to mention that the 7mm spanner is possibly the most useful spanner ever and it's never bloody included!!!

Think the more modern sets have many more sizes...

200pc has all consecutive sockets.

No 7mm spanner, but I've never needed one tbh lol.

You mean you've never had an awkward to access jubilee clip?!

Standard turbo on XUD, small silicone piece from turbo inlet to standard piping. That was a bastard to do from the drivers wheel well.

EDIT: Wait...that was a 7mm socket. Ignore me.

Nope... I find jubilees tend to put on in a way that they can come off again! How would the last person fit it otherwise lol? There are short and deep 7mm sockets for the small ratchet or screwdriver handle which have been good enough so far... And I've stripped a few complete 306s with this kit lol.

That's certainly a bloody good start for someone with nothing.

I've also got one of the through hole kits. The annoying kit that you cannot get extra bits for as it's non standard connections.
it's extremely handy for things like adjusting boschs where you have a screw to hold and lock nut. But a spanner can be difficult to get into position.

I've a TorQ set which I believe is a B&Q brand, fantastic range, every size I've ever needed on a 306 inc. impact sockets for wheel nuts, etc.

Nothing's ever broken, one ratchet seized after my friend left it in water but after soaking in WD40 for a few weeks it has been working flawlessly ever since.

Not sure of cost as it was a gift but it has been fantastic for the last 3 years or so.

Before the car was made and it was put on in the factory!!!

Classic one for that is the water distribution block on all XU engines, they put the clips on in the most retarded position.

But yeah, I know I can pick up another socket for a few quid, but you haven't got anywhere to put it! I'd much rather full sets of each, but that's just me probably!

Good point lol. But if its so inaccessible that the small 7mm socket on ratchet or driver handle can't do it, I don't see that a spanner would.

I never really use the other sets I have now. I do wish there was a couple of 'man' tools in with the kit though. Pliers/side cutters/hammer/chisel/etc. But for sockets, spanners and bits I really haven't needed any extra since getting the 200pc kit.

My dad put one of his 17 Snap-On deepreach sockets (non-impact) onto my 18v Snap-On impact gun and it cracked it right down the side...
Snap-on did replace it, but that's not the point, if you were mid job and didn't have another that's game over...

This is the closest:

http://www.halfords.com/motoring/garage-...et-1-4-3-8

My set is only the one ratchet and it came with more ratchet ring spanners.
it's several years old so they probs don't sell mine any more. It was about 40 rather than 60 too.

it was a quick thought to teh mrs for getting me something at xmas. Turned out really handy Smile
