Engine trouble
#1
So driving along, everything fine. Suddenly engine gets a lot louder, a lot more rattly and knocky. No power, well lack if power, black smoke while driving, haze of smoke on idle, will stall every now and then,

Nothing changed, didn't hit anything, no clunks or bangs. Just happened

Sounds like it mate, unless you got a stupid boost leak but can't think why she'd stall if it were that...

Agree with Mr cheese there. Sounds like timing has slipped, stop driving it immediately and get that belt sorted!

Auxilary belt/serpentine belt/fanbelt, no need to replace it tbh unless its worn. btw theres 2 different timing belt kits the back plate on the idler pulley is the difference between the 2.

If it's slipped its probably because some aux belt has got caught up in cam belt, hence why I said to replace them both Smile

So which one am I gunna need? And what am I looking for too tell the difference? What does the back plate look like? Are the belts themselves the same? If so might just replace the belt for time being till I can affor to do the whole hog

Just get a 1.9DT cambelt (I believe they're all the same)

Aux belt is a little more tricky. I found the different PAS pumps have different sized pulleys.

Does yours have AC?

Not sure on your motorfactors, but just take your old one in to match to a new one there will no doubt be a few variants for the XUD

But you do need to investigate why the aux belt moved off track. Tensioner on the piss/belt slack/etc

When in doubt, rip it out.

I most certainly am not in the ball, or in any way living inside a testicle Big Grin

Will try and get it checked tonight
Checked prices and its like14 for a Campbelt and 3 quid for a.drive belt which I'm guessing is the aux belt as its so cheap

no, 3 quid is too cheap, should be about a tenner or so for aux belt and 20 for cam belt approx x
