Does anyone know the ratios for gears 1 to 6 on a 2000 gti6 gearbox?
Cheers

ive got it down as
Gearbox
Number of Gears 6
Ratios:
1st 2.92
2nd 1.87
3rd 1,.41
4th 1.15
5th 0.95
6th 0.79
Final drive 3.95:1
i sure there were two final drive ratios with a change over date in 1997

PFC said the rallye had a better gearbox than the 6. Are we saying that the FD is the difference?

Im pretty sure thats wrong. I think the Phase 1 had a different final drive but the Gti-6 and Rallye after phase 1 were the same box and FD.
I am of course open to be shot down in flames here. lol

I was under the impression that some time during producing ph.2 cars they changed the final drive as ph.2/3 cars a bit heavier.
This post is an artistic work of fiction and falsehood. Only a fool would take anything posted above as fact.

Utter bollocks lol
as mentioned, its just a mid 97 change, way before the rallye was built iirc

the reason they changed the ratio of the final drive in 97 was the PH1 was lighter than the ph2/3 due to lack of safety systems,
the heavyer ph2/3 needed the changed FD to dring back the lost go, cause of the increased wieght

Is there a way of identifying the early and later 6 speed gearboxes apart without opening the box up?
I have 3 of them in my garage, and wish to try them in my 205. Just interested in seeing which ones I've got.

might be the code stamped on them, but if not then its just the doff cover that needs popping off.
Edit - yep Servicebox says -
TA 38 is the 19 x 75.
19X77 - CT 22X19 MARKING TA70 TD43 TAG0 - REAR AXLE HYPOID GEARSET 19 X 77 AND TACHO TORQUE 22X19 SINCE RPO 07431 AND AGE >= 2

no.
you must change the cwp as a matching set, pinion is machined from the shaft, not a separate gear.
also 5 speed shaft is not long enough for 6 speed box, and splines for 3-4 gear vary.

I want to use that for racing car .. max speed is less than 200 then I can use 19x79 or 17x77 with GTi6's gears .. without 6th .
17x77 , 17x81 , 19x79 is available here
have you any idea about weigh of 405's cabin without interior and seats ?

Better off using 5 speed box... It's a lot lighter and you get steering lock.
The 6 box is different from both be 3 and 4. We tried swapping gears about to suit a be4 4.5 final drive I have. Nothing fitted as they have different fitment spline numbers.
