6 Box gear ratios - Niall - 17-08-2014 Does anyone know the ratios for gears 1 to 6 on a 2000 gti6 gearbox? Cheers ![]() RE: 6 Box gear ratios - Mike306 - 18-08-2014 (17-08-2014, 10:34 PM)Niall Wrote: Does anyone know the ratios for gears 1 to 6 on a 2000 gti6 gearbox? 2.92 1.87 1.41 1.15 0.95 0.80 fd: 4.05 taken from http://www.track-monkey.co.uk/downloads/205ratiosGti6.xls ![]() RE: 6 Box gear ratios - Niall - 18-08-2014 Thanks ![]() RE: 6 Box gear ratios - cully - 18-08-2014 ive got it down as Gearbox Number of Gears 6 Ratios: 1st 2.92 2nd 1.87 3rd 1,.41 4th 1.15 5th 0.95 6th 0.79 Final drive 3.95:1 i sure there were two final drive ratios with a change over date in 1997 RE: 6 Box gear ratios - welshpug - 18-08-2014 Yes, there is a small difference in the fd used. RE: 6 Box gear ratios - Eeyore - 18-08-2014 PFC said the rallye had a better gearbox than the 6. Are we saying that the FD is the difference? RE: 6 Box gear ratios - PartyJas - 18-08-2014 Im pretty sure thats wrong. I think the Phase 1 had a different final drive but the Gti-6 and Rallye after phase 1 were the same box and FD. I am of course open to be shot down in flames here. lol RE: 6 Box gear ratios - RetroPug - 18-08-2014 I was under the impression that some time during producing ph.2 cars they changed the final drive as ph.2/3 cars a bit heavier. Utter bollocks lol as mentioned, its just a mid 97 change, way before the rallye was built iirc RE: 6 Box gear ratios - Eeyore - 18-08-2014 Yes i always thought the later 6 boxes in the rallye and the gti6 were identical! RE: 6 Box gear ratios - cully - 18-08-2014 the reason they changed the ratio of the final drive in 97 was the PH1 was lighter than the ph2/3 due to lack of safety systems, the heavyer ph2/3 needed the changed FD to dring back the lost go, cause of the increased wieght RE: 6 Box gear ratios - mr405 - 18-12-2015 hi GTi6 has only 3.95 ( or 4.05 ) and 4.44 FDs? the pinion is 19? what about 4.44's pinion ? tnx RE: 6 Box gear ratios - Alan_M - 18-12-2015 Is there a way of identifying the early and later 6 speed gearboxes apart without opening the box up? I have 3 of them in my garage, and wish to try them in my 205. Just interested in seeing which ones I've got. RE: 6 Box gear ratios - welshpug - 18-12-2015 might be the code stamped on them, but if not then its just the doff cover that needs popping off. Edit - yep Servicebox says - TA 38 is the 19 x 75. 19X77 - CT 22X19 MARKING TA70 TD43 TAG0 - REAR AXLE HYPOID GEARSET 19 X 77 AND TACHO TORQUE 22X19 SINCE RPO 07431 AND AGE >= 2 (18-12-2015, 10:47 AM)mr405 Wrote: hi 3.95/4.05 only. RE: 6 Box gear ratios - mr405 - 18-12-2015 http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=74745 this site says rallye is 4.44 ! RE: 6 Box gear ratios - welshpug - 18-12-2015 thats wrong. RE: 6 Box gear ratios - mr405 - 18-12-2015 what about MI16's diff ? I should change gear shaft ? or only CW and P I have 19x79 CWP .. can I change only CW to make 4.16 ? thanks a lot RE: 6 Box gear ratios - welshpug - 18-12-2015 no. you must change the cwp as a matching set, pinion is machined from the shaft, not a separate gear. also 5 speed shaft is not long enough for 6 speed box, and splines for 3-4 gear vary. RE: 6 Box gear ratios - mr405 - 18-12-2015 I want to use that for racing car .. max speed is less than 200 then I can use 19x79 or 17x77 with GTi6's gears .. without 6th . 17x77 , 17x81 , 19x79 is available here ![]() have you any idea about weigh of 405's cabin without interior and seats ? RE: 6 Box gear ratios - adam b - 19-12-2015 Better off using 5 speed box... It's a lot lighter and you get steering lock. The 6 box is different from both be 3 and 4. We tried swapping gears about to suit a be4 4.5 final drive I have. Nothing fitted as they have different fitment spline numbers. RE: 6 Box gear ratios - Stef205 - 19-12-2015 who cares about the ratios of a 6 box its awful box anyway. ![]() |
