Insurance HDI vs GTI6
#1
hi guys,

just a quick one to see if it is the same with everyone as i was suprised, is it cheaper for other people to insure a GTI6 over a HDI as for some reason it puts my insurance down?

Just wondering if this is common?

I have possibly sold the hdi to a friend and i have a Spinnaker 1.9 i was going to mot and have GTI6 as another car as they are not expensive know, tempted but unsure if wise move..

thanks all

Made no difference for me with Brentacre, just had to cover an admin fee.

I have found a HDi was 100 quid cheaper than the Dturbo I had at the time. the insurance tried to pull a fast one in saying that its going to cost more to insure etc, but when I did a re quote online on it, the self and same company gave me a quote of 100 quid less! I rang back up and pulled them about it, they sharp changed their tune! And they decided to charge me the admin fee, after the 3 months were up, and I got my noclaims thru, I went else where!

A fair few people have said they're not especially different insurance wise.
If you get a well-sorted GTi-6 you will not regret it.

A stage 1 HDi is more to insure than a standard GTi6 for me.... Standard HDi and standard GTi are almost exactly the same. Only problem is I couldn't afford the fuel for a '6 lol, or find one locally!

Tbh tom I don't think you would notice the difference on fuel economy between the 1.8 and 6 until you start smashing your foot through the floor. Mine used to easily do 41-43mpg on the motorway which I think is pretty good for a 15 year old 2.0 petrol

But supposedly the little old mining town I live in is a shit hole :-) plus you live in a village that's still turning cars over by hand :-)

Lol, out here theres not much else to do except drive to somewhere else, so this means lots of fast cars and lots of crashes on country roads lol, so the insurance reflects this! Sad My Nans postcode is cheaper as her village is full of old people that don't even realise they've crashed into everything.... Its odd really seeing as they're both supposed to be band A, as is most of Ipswich town as well! Confused

Worst thing is I think I'm older than you and been driving longer with more no claims

Tom iirc the A-F grades only take into account things like theft and vandalism. Not how people drive in that area.
Most people are categorised by their age and job mostly. Like for instance, if your a professional tv star, you will pay a fortune for some reason.

Surely crashes (or claims) are taken into account as well...for example, when people take out the bus stop that's on a notorious slippery corner I'm guessing insurance pays out for that sort of thing?

I'm pretty sure post code is more than just the A-F rating as well though, either that or the code checker things are wrong lol.

If you're getting quotes on a gti-6 then a comparison website is unlikely to give you the cheapest ones for it.

I'm just trying to let you know as if you're trying to make a comparison between the cost of owning a '6 and an HDi I don't think the HDi's price will come down much with specialist brokers but the '6s might which might potentially make it ok to own and run one.

I'm only 22 and if I had a '6 that was worth more than 1500 it'd be 700something to insure all mods declared.
