Wouldn't shoe polish come off when you sit on it?

No foxy! That ruins your clothes!

I've got some great stuff that turns the leather much softer and cleaner (amount of crap that comes out is unreal). It's like a paste that you wipe on and leave for as long as possible. Will get the name of it tomorrow.
Also for a quick clean, zymol leather cleaner is great and brings the original leather smell out again

I got some cheap lemonny stuff in a spray can from ASDA which works well tbh.......but you have to use a sponge rather than the 'applicator' that comes with it as that'd just rip holes in the seats!

Johnson and johnson baby wipes are awsome for leather, don't buy cheap supermarket ones though they are crap
