Hmm that's what I was thinking!!!
I dont think HDi alternators fit, going to check now and see if ive got something that I can bodge to fit... Ive got the choice of a HDi alternator or a GTi6 one... I have a DT one but its not the same mounts as mine..

I always wondered if the XUD needed an alternator to keep it going, does it just need it for the stop solenoid and dash electrics?

Pretty much. But bear in mind the time it was posted, he'd need headlights and stuff on too.

He could have drove all day in the daylight, was the fact that headlights and dash etc had all stopped working, altho hilariously, even with the headlights glowing / everything out dead, it never acaully died! Stop solenoid will hang on until utter deadness before it drops the pin!

Biggest problem was tbe traffic on the M5 as I had no cooling fans, it was rapidly overheating... And no headlights... So I was just f*cked!!

All sorted, risked it foe a chocolate biscuit and drove to scrappys and found one on a Partner van that was by chance the same flavour as the one I needed.
All on and sorted. Fml!
And yeah, theyve got replacable brushes, took my brushpack and regulator out and it was knackered, the brush was barely touching the commutator... New alternator sorted it anyway.
I say New, its done 180k...
