yesterday was FCS it was a good day, not so many cars as i have seen in the past probably due to the weather forcast putting people off, but the rain cleared up around lunch time then it was a clear sunny day ive even got sunburned!

i had track time booked for the last session of the day and by 3pm i had changed my wheels to my track ones ready to do my time.
remember the solid beam mounts i made! they were epic!
what a change to the car for the good, in germany on the std mounts the rear wheels were rubbing the bodywork on the inside of the wheels, but now with the solids not at all, just shows how much the beams must move on the std mounts.
ive come away from combe with a few things to do,
  • 1st i need an oil cooler! oil temps hit 140 out on the track but soon cooled
  • 2nd maybe some upgraded brake meterial although the std's held up well by the end of 15 mins you could tell they were not up to taking much more abuse

all in i had a good day Thankyou all for making it enjoyable

If this is a pure abuse car, id suggest a 16 row cooler. I had a few fun moments on the way home today, didn't properly gun it but my oil temps reached just under 100 very easily and thats with a 13 row cooler.

I run a 16 row on mine, and whether it be nurburgring or a track here in the UK, I've never seen more than 95c, even after a 15/20 minute pasting.

She looked good mate both parked and on track. What brake fluid are you running as I'm sure part of the reason mine were so good is running 5.1 fluid. Mine only started feeling a little softer towards the end of my session.

no idea on the brake fluid maybe a good call in replacing it with better stuff to start with to be honest,
and am getting a few prices in for oil cooler bits, looks like a 16 row and a thermo plate will be used

Yep this, any time I've bled a system through totally its been given 5.1. The cost difference is negligible over the length of time you'll have it in there and its much better performing.

I'm using mintex 1144 pads and 5.1 fluid on my 6, hasn't let me down yet no matter now enthusiastic I drive :-P

recently i have bought a 16 row oil cooler which has been delivered
i have ordered a thermostatic take off plate which should be her today or tommorow

so yesterday after we got home i stuck the car up on the ramps ready to remove the front bumper in prep for fitting the cooler

so today was fit cooler day
ive decided its going to be hard to see as i dont want it on show or too ovious
my mission was to fit it behind std fans so it was hidden

first off was a lot of measuring offering up marking before i started drilling and cutting

first photo is of the cooler mounted to the lower crossmember on threaded bar
the cooler is fixed on the stud bar in rubber mounts top and bottom as per the fixing instructions

next was to make the fan cowl fit this included cutting a section out of the lower part and slotting the lower rad holes as ive had to mount the lower part of the fans closer to the bumpet

next was offer up time and drill some new fixings for the fan cowl as it was slid forward on its mounts

now was fix time so i could offer up the bumper and see if the fans would still spin
which they did Smile


all in all im quite impressed how hidden it is but is still in full front airflow

ive measured up for my oil pipes so will get them made and hopefully the sandwich plate will turn up

Or Is there space to sit it completely behind one of the fans for extra cooling

You've probably thought of this already though Smile

i did think about trimming the triangle piece between the fans
but my logic behind not doing it is, if it gets hot i can cut some more holes, if it is ok it gives the cooler some protection from stones Wink
and yes you could mount it to the left or right or even have a second cooler side by side Wink

ordered my pipes at 2pm today they were delvered at 6pm same day
propper crimped pipes FTW!

and the thermoplate turned up

cooler nor the pipes touch the radiator

wanted to mount the takeoff against the block but was unable too due to clearance issues so had to be mounted on top of oil moden

i had one small oil leak on a joint but slackening off and retightening sorted that

now to fit the bumper and find some HOooning roads Big Grin

the book says the six takes 4.25Ltrs i have put 4.5ltrs in for now but i have not got it off the ramps as i still need to fix the bumper and platics back on.
and typical its started raining now Sad

I payed £17 for the hydraulic pipes to be made i can't belive there is such a big mark up on the hydraulic fittings and pipe

I think I need to invest in some of those Paul... I'm using some really ropey "jubileed" pipes on mine... and they keep coming loose!

I've finish putting the bumper back on today, got the car off the ramps and have topped the oil off to the mark,
I've added around 1ltr to the oil capacity with the 16 row and the pipework.

went for a Hoon and a drive to Exeter oil temp didn't get to 90c and the water didn't pass 80c
on the run back the motorway water temps dropped back to 75c and oil stayed at 85c

on return I've checked all the joints for leaks and all looks dry

all in now I've seen the general running temp drop so all is good

Is it good that the oil isn't reaching 90?

I try not to hoon mine until it's got to the 90 mark, probably over cautious but I'm just ridiculously mechanically sympathetic lmao

And water temp, although the standard gauge isn't 100% accurate, 75 degrees sounds pretty dieseley in terms of temps?

Just my thoughts as I've noticed the Xu10 lump likes to run quite hot.
