ok tapping engine
how noticable is it? what causes the tapping engine and what is the cure?
Serious time

All gtis sound like they tap a bit on idle. This is down to noisy injectors. Ive never heard one that doesnt. Difference is as soon as you pick up the revs, the engine noise drowns out the tap so it should disappear. If the tap picks up speed and volume with the revs, its definitely a tapper and regardless of if its been "repaired", should be avoided!

Cambelt history is essential. They should be done about ever 30k on this engine!
knocking top mount on pull away. Gtis have a habit of breaking the cup where the engine mount bolts too. Fairly easy welding required to fix this.
Oil leak. May look like its coming from the cambelt area, usually it comes from the brake servo pump on the side of the head and runs along the back edge of the head.
tapping is the valves being bent. If they are slightly bent they will tap. Think thats hitting the top of the piston every time it comes up? If they are bent a bit more they will be wearing away the guides they sit in. Either way any tapping you are looking at lost power AND a head rebuild which is anywhere between £400 - 700 depending on how much work you get done, how much damage there is and whether you get it done pro or do it yourself. What Niall said about the tapping getting faster and louder the higher the revs. Cambelt replacement is killer on these so unless its been done recently id get it done asap!

Basically. It pays to get a good 6 in the first place instead of getting a crap one and having to fix it!

Standard stuff to look for is shagged beam, beam mounts, make sure the temperature is in a decent place on the test drive. mmmm rallye specific... make sure the window winders work? D:

oh and make sure the racoon filter is in good condition. They are a dealer only part and expensive to get hold of if its knackered Sad
the valve tap is the head of the valve not seating properly every time it returns home. Eventually the head will snap off and destroy the engine!

with regards to temp, they run hot! Its not unusual for it to hit over 100 degrees in traffic situations.
Check that it bwarps.

Then buy it.
Also check for rust in back passenger arch, just incase...

Usual electrics after that id say...
May want to check the RCL Works or not too lol

may have to start a new policy
multi car with admiral, they will also let you add your state when its insurence runs out so you dont have to cancil your current one
Who are you with? Some companies will mirror your no claims. Brentacre have for me
National farmers union allow you to change car on the policy with no admin fee, essentially change it whenever you want.

Might be worth considering..
yes i will have to see my broker tomorrow
i only banged a quote into a compare site then a work mate said i couldnt use NCD on a second policy

this car in its life has been a show car highly polished and clean to such an extent some of the body edges have been polished through to the primer

i believe this car in the last two owners has been neglected and as it stands needs a major overhaul
things needed
Cambelt
clutch
rear beam
handbrake cable
