well ive done it now. 106 s2 coil pack and corsa ht leads. If the corsa leads arent good enough ill swap them for something bigger. Seems to be the standard route for people doing what im doing. saved £25 and cost about £70 for the lot from ecp.

That's what I have, any 8v Tu pre COP, or any 8v XU wasted spark coil.
Ford coil can work but it needs that silly ford specific plug, no idea what leads youd use on that.

Yeh I looked at the first stuff and most aftermarket options like map used the ford oval plug. I'll try this setup first and see if it fixes it.

I've heard good things about "sea foam" to decoking motors.

I use the xsi coil never let me down bud. Your plugs could be the wrong heat grade

check the condition of the plugs, stick a picture up.
I would not be surprised these days if cully was on the right lines, though in my experience they tend to miss when cold due to coolsnt seeping into the cylinder at rest, if they are holding some compression the misfire can often clear as they warm up and burn off the coolant.
until its a proper loss of compression where the misfire is there all the time.
it could be as suggested also the plugs, if the map isnt great and theres too much fuel in certain areas and the tenp scaling is off they can foul up quickly, running a hotter standard 6 grade plug can alleviate this though your total advance figure may be too much if they have pushed it.

do a compression test cold then hot
poor injector could give a misfire
clutching at straws

I've got a compression tester you can borrow if needed. I don't see it being hgf though in all honesty. This issue has been around for months now, hg wouldn't last that long under abuse without further signs IMO.

so what should i be looking at? the 5 plugs im currently using are the standard ngk option from ecp.
"Some manufacturers numbering systems are opposite the other - for Champion, Autolite and Bosch, the higher the number, the hotter the plug. For NGK, Denso and Pulstar, the higher the number, the colder the plug."
Right ive ordered some BKR6EKs on next day delivery and will give those a go.

5's!!! thats hooter than oem! no wonder! try some bcr7es. 8's are ok for track when flat out all the time and cylinder temp is higher 7's are good for everyday. Ive used 7's for years as niall did in his.
Try ngk 3330 bcr7es

5's were never listed for a 6 so god knows how they managed that, as said, they're a hotter plug.
also, they're fecking expensive!! ngk's are half that at my local motorfactors.

I never realised there was so much variation in a spark! Thought it was only the gap that made any difference, I've learnt something there.

gap doesnt specifically make that significant a difference unless its way out of spec, and plugs are pre-gapped these days and arent designed to be adjusted anyway, the earth electrode is too brittle.
