		Hi

I've recently seen a ph1 5 door 306 S16 LHD that was imported from Europe several years ago. It has had 2 owners from new. It has done around 50k and is in mint condition. My only gripe is that it is a 5 door and my last 2 s16's were 3 door. To my knowledge the s16 was only ever made in 3 door but as this is a LHD i was wondering if they made a 5 door version for Europe? Can anyone help. I know the engine is an s16 engine having owned 2 already but I question whether the chassis is an s16?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I believe, xsi was also lablled as a s16 in Europe, or maybe that was the gti. I know 206 s16s exist.

I think that's right, so could be badged as a s16

Thanks for your reply. I know the engine is the car I'm interested in is definitely an s16 engine and not the xsi 16v. I've also owned an xsi and the engine is different. The hand book with the euro car is for xsi and s16. The xsi revs to just over 6000 rpm and the s16 revs to 7. When I look at the rev counter in this euro car the red line doesn't start until 7 so I'm inclined to say it is an s16. The only thing I question is why it is a 5 door? Any more ideas?

Thanks very much I will have a look for that when I go to view it. Do you think it's possible that they made a 5 door s16 for the euro market

Euro market did get substantially different trim levels to us. Their higher spec 306s had things like cruise control, full leather heated seats and a very crude form of satnav

Hi

Thanks. This model I'm going to see has half leathers in mint condition but I think that's about it. No sat nav or cruise control unfortunately. I would have liked some cruise control. It has the intergrated headrests in the rear seats. It has colour coded door handles and mirrors but not door trims. It also does not have the keypad for the immobiliser like my first s16 had. It's the 5 doors thing that's bothering me.

Also can I get peoples opinions on this purchase

If you can get a vin number from it then we can confirm the build spec and model for you.

Sounds like a base spec S16. Not necessarily a bad thing, but as Niall says, a VIN number will clarify things

I've requested the vin number from the seller but it might be tomorrow now before he replies. Thanks for all your help. Please come back tomorrow and read my post when I get the vin. Cheers chaps. Opinions still welcome.

No sweat. You never know, the rarity of the car in this country could play a benefit in the future, as these cars become rarer and rarer. Fingers crossed!

Haha nice one. I've always hated 5 doors but have struggles to find a decent s16 for a while now. If the engine purrs I can live with 5 doors. I just don't think they look quite as good as 3 doors.

Yeah I won it on eBay and have come to an agreement with the seller over actual price.

Lol, I've always preferred 5drs but each to their own.
It'll still have sport spec suspension as well btw, literally the only difference will be the extra practicality and ease of entry/exit in carparks.

Yeah I noticed a definite difference between the handling of my s16 and xsi. The xsi was all over the place in comparison. The s16 was like a go kart. Have to get those whelks powdercoated I thinks

It should be the same tbh! Problem is people replace parts with aftermarket which doesn't tend to be the 'sports' versions... Plus the beams are dying on most 306s now which really doesn't help handling.

Lol at painting the whelks.

Rare, how come no one has retrofitted cruise control to a rhd 306?

I looked on service box and the parts aren't even listed, just has a CC section.

I wonder how it even worked.

How much would that cost to do that?

Does that mean we over here might be able to get hold of and fit some of these extras?

Full leather heated seats sound good as well. Liking the built in head rests.

Yeah I prefer them to the separate ones. Full leather seats would be nice but what condition they'll be on now, god knows. I saw a photo of someone's 306 and it had rx8 seats in it. Looked alright

Oh and it does have the keypad to start the engine with. The seller said it didn't but when I turned up to look at it, it did. Duh!!

Try and get some full leathers from a 306 cab
