tuning box on a 1.9?! no, they dont do them.
Its mechanical injection so its all mechanical adjustments.

How do they know its now 128bhp??

And how much did he pay for his 36bhp upgrade?!

FYI....dont need to go to a garage to tune a 1.9dturbo...just a couple of tools and find the online guides! (=free)

If it's a 1.9 on an R reg it's a DTurbo. If that's the case the garage is talking bollocks if they added a black box and said it's faster.
Pretty much any mods to get a DT to that kind of power are almost invisible to the eye. Just a couple of nuts/bolts need fiddled with and to the untrained eye will still look stock.

I'd advise your mate to ask what the garage actually did...

How much did he pay out of interest?

Almost? It's definitely worth calling them. Name and shame the garage too.

I think the key point here is he claims it's faster. It's only faster because his wallet's now empty

I'd name and shame the garage, then maybe someone with some knowledge can drop round with the guy who's got ripped off, with a video camera and ask some intelligent questions, watch them get really confused and spout bullshit, then ask what they did to make "128 BHP", get them to explain then send the whole video over to trading standards and put it on youtube
Welding and fabrication projects undertaken, contact me for more information.
