As title reads, my car has recently developed a ticking sound which gets louder when i accelerate, doesnt make any sound when accelerator pedal isnt pushed... located sound to left side of the engine bay.
Does it sound like a common symptom of fuel injectors need replacing?

If so realistically how easy to do, cost, and how long would it take as I use my car for work an need it first thing monday morning?

Or could it be crankshaft pulley or something else?

If it helps car has done 140k and haven't got much of a service history apart from MOTs and a couple of service receipts

yeah to be exact around 3.2k which i know is injector related..
I hear it in idle quite quietly and then the more i rev upto 3.2k the louder it gets..

Its too dark for me to have a proper look around at the minute though

Actually thinking about it... it could be my camshaft pulley starting to fail, they're only rated for about 70k arent they? and it sounds nearer to drivers side..

I think because I have no sound deadening in my engine bay it sounds worse than what it is?

So is it just a case of cleaning them, replacing the copper rings around them?

There's been loads of threads on this recently, have a look about. The general gist is that there's nothing you can do to stop it short of buying new injectors. Fuel system cleaner will do more harm than good, copper washers won't make much of a difference, Cully claims even refurbished injectors start ticking again within a year.

Poodle's right on the money I'm afraid, new ones or very low mileage replacements.........Tom306HDi on .net had a set refurbed by the same people who did Cully's and they're ticking again after only 3 months!

Ticking injectors aren't a problem mate, just an annoyance, it'll probably be fine for the next 50k miles lol.

Ah bugger hahaha, never mind. Got a bosch specialist near me i'm doing my best to get friendly with, but they want close enough to a ton per injector... :S

Haha that's how mine sounds, best way to tell which one is ticking is put a screwdriver against each injector and listen through the screwdriver, I seem to get more off a weird tick from injector 2. But if changing them replace as a set of 4 with the same codes on them. Probs a bit of useless advise lol.

Not at all mate, tried the screwdriver trick however couldnt really tell which one, however I'm sure it's the first one, yeah gonna replace them all when the time comes.. Do I need to replace the whole rail or just new injectors?
