Think about it, if in 2nd gear youre doing 20mph at 2k, and 40mph at 4k, at 7k youre doing......
That statement above is largely a generalisation, but in essence the gearbox on a dt is waaaay longer, as you only have a short 'powerband' on a dt.
Therefore, it's actually a good idea on a high torque turbo engine, long gearing means you'll make the most of the mahoosive torque spread throughout the rev range.
fyi the reason the rotrex kids dont do this is because the rotrex is effectively a torque multiplier, ie it miltiplies the peak torque at any given rpm by a factor 'x'. meaning you still get quite a peaky power delivery, which is still well suited to a close-ratio box like the '6 box.
