Yep, it is. Also hooked up to buzzer that warns you that head lights have been left on. Contacts on switch become corroded as does earthing point (where it screws on to car body).

If you take old one out to try to clean it or replace with new make sure you secure the connecting lead to stop it disappearing inside the door pillar ....it's an absolute b***ard to retrieve.
