What diesel engines do you rate?

Pretty resistant in that they'll make good power with stock internals or it'll just keep on running even HGF

Okay the cam/lift problem is a bit sucky but all engines have a flaw, and poor servicing by owners in the mindset of "its German so it's reliable/doesn't need looking after" probably doesn't help.

I imagine half the turbo issues are user created similar in how XUD throw rods or possbibly done by bad maps asking for too much boost.

Even in standard form they are wank whereas an xud in standard form just keeps going for decades
