Looking at that screenshot which doesn't seem to be in this 'quote' reply you are being spanked by £350 for paying by installments.
Now I'm not a typical example at 42 years of age but having had to resit my test. that I passed in October, I am a new driver & I had similar quotes, and also ridiculous ones for my HDi.
The worst was over £6500 fully comp not sure how for a £400 car, the best was £900 fully comp but they wanted a ridiculous amount of interest which would have been a £300 deposit then £350 per month for 9 months.
After doing the comparison sites and finding Churchill to be reasonable, I then went to the Churchill site and got £60 off plus breakdown cover for free. This came in at around your figure of £1700 but without the interest on payments I only have to pay £150 per month after the deposit
My advice would be don't go cheap but maybe think that a policy that costs a bit more may have hidden benefits as I found
