Check the earth wire on the right hand side of the engine, above the gearbox (youll see where it mounts) is tight.. i had EXACTLY the same issue,
replaced battery and starter with known good/new ones, still happened..
did the screw up on the back of the engine, after weeks of "power but not enough to crank the engine" and it solved it first time..
To check, get yourself a jump lead, clip it onto the starter motor and the other end on to the NEGATIVE Terminal, if it fires up straight away its almost certianly an earth problem,
