power issues when starting - HDIkyle - 06-08-2014 I left my lights on at work Monday so came to car completely flat. Jumped it and away I went. Tuesday morning started car about 6.30 after been sat since y the previous night. Started ok. Parked up about 7 but at 12.30 it seemed flat. Just clicks on turning the key. Tryd a bump but no joy. Tryd key again and it started up. Then come home time 5.30 almost dead and same afew hours later. This morning it just clicked. Changed starter motor and battery and same halfords says battery is ok. Messed about with earth and it started but not sure if its due to earth or the battery been completely flat? RE: power issues when starting - andywhy - 06-08-2014 Sounds like an earth issue if you "tried to bump but no joy. Tried key again and it started". RE: power issues when starting - toseland - 07-08-2014 Check the earth wire on the right hand side of the engine, above the gearbox (youll see where it mounts) is tight.. i had EXACTLY the same issue, replaced battery and starter with known good/new ones, still happened.. did the screw up on the back of the engine, after weeks of "power but not enough to crank the engine" and it solved it first time.. To check, get yourself a jump lead, clip it onto the starter motor and the other end on to the NEGATIVE Terminal, if it fires up straight away its almost certianly an earth problem, |
