306 GTI-6 Front struts and springs on a HDI?

I have a 306 HDI Y Reg, soon to have a stage 1 with a full straight through. The only thing I want to improve on the car is the suspension. It sounds a bit knocky so instead of replacing with standard parts is there any improvement fitting the GTI front struts and springs? and are there any fitment issues?
