I've had both, but am actually the complete reverse of Kent.

XUD is more responsive and easier to tune.

HDi is easier to diagnose and repair (admittedly mainly thanks to knowledge of electronic trickery) and better on fuel.

Either way, looks like you'll be set for looking after them properly, plenty of practice there!
