I know that the GTI180 discs are about 1kg more than the GTI6 ones, but the caliper is Bosch rather than Lucas and looks a lot smaller, anyone know of the calliper weights? And what do people think of the GTI180 setup for those who have/have had them? any better than GTI6 setup? 180 setup seems chaper these days.

Check the availability and cost of uprated pads if that is something you'll potentially need (ie trackdays and the like) as there used to be much less selection and at higher cost for the GTi-180 setup compared to GTi-6. However, that was a while ago I last looked so it might have improved somewhat since.

Thanks both, so GTI6/172/182 front brakes all Lucas 283mm? Not bothered about uprated pads, just interested in which out of 180/GTI6 is lighter and/or has better stopping power

think the 180's are 302mm and the 6 brakes are 283mm . . . . correct me if i'm wrong, if i'm not, the 180 brakes should stop better . . .good 6 brakes with good pads and discs stop very well though . .

		no, 180/307 are 283mm, but a hefty 26mm so about 7 kg a disc, gti6 are 283x22 and sbout 6 kg

Caliper weight probably similar, discs are much thicker though at 26mm as Welshpug said - therefore heavier.

Thanks Ruan, they look a lot smaller/more compact on the GTi180 so thought they would weigh a chunk less (and have a smaller piston too)

Probably because they have 17 inch wheels, makes them look smaller...

I think the piston is 2 or 3mm smaller too IIRC

They look smaller side by side with the GTI6 caliper, not talking about with wheels on.

180 caliper is smaller and smaller piston. Bit lighter.
 Keep it simple
