Would piston rings require a new block?

Yeah more than likely. Best have that head off and investigate.
Hope it's just the head gasket.

Yeah the heads coming off and getting skimmed on Saturday but I really do think that it's something more than that! Shame though the engine is only on 75k.

What makes you think the waterpump is gone ? Sure its not just by all in all? Or is pump itself leaking ?

Pretty sure the pump is leaking, . Start with Empty rad -> 3L or water In the rad. All pisses out of an area just behind the cam belt, just presume its the water pump..

Hmm yeah I remember someone saying about that! , as said I will be taking a proper look at it over the weekend, and deciding the plan of action then, I may not even need to get the head machined yet! Might not have warped! Could be an easy fix, ( but As we all know it's never that simple !)

We dont know whats wrong yet. My diagnosis of waterpump was literally from sticking my head under the car and having a quick look. I wasnt in the situation to start stipping the engine down to check everything, but il remember to check water distributer and core plug. I suppose saying the waterpump has gone isnt strictly true, probably just the gasket between pump and block, but its worth changing anyway once its all apart.

If the pumps leaking its most likely coming from the shaft, so will need replacing, be suprised tho as surely iris has this thing serviced up well ?

Don't forget Jake mentioned blue smoke out the exhaust. So it's burning oil somewhere.

Check the bores for any scores and pistons for damage.

Yeah, properly pouring blue smoke out even at idle when I met up with him, not good at all. Would be a real bastard if the rings are fecked, especially considering the mileage this engine has done.

Milage the engine has done or mileage the clocks say its done? and if its pouring out blue smoke I would check the intake side of things after the turbo just in case its that blasting oil down the intake!
