Chris, if you cam it you'll rag it (and destroy it's value). You know it's true, so don't try and deny it. Either keep it standard or mod it, you won't be able to do half a job.
Put down ebay for starters, i know you've just been clicking on interesting looking things out of nosiness, but step away from the buy-it-now button!

Yeh that doesnt happen when i drive mine
But thats why i have brought a HDi as using the rallye as a daily is

A) Bankrupting me in fuel, tax and parts
B) Ruining the car
C) Takes the fun out of owning it if im dependant on it being 100% reliable.

My GTi-6 has done 78k. Bought it with 62k on the clock iirc.
Tbh, I've driven nicer 100k+ ones.

Whatever you do, don't mod it. You'll regret it. I wish I'd left mine stock as tbh, I hate driving it now. Noisy, uncomfortable, impractical, difficult to drive, and slower than my Astra over anything but perfect roads.

Its a rallye, its getting ragged (when up to temp and safe to do so obviously). Already spent £300 on the bay of E but all stuff for the rebuild rather than mods. I do think there's a case for few tasteful mods especially mild cams as 167bhp isn't enough and a well screwed together rallye with dyno sheets to prove power is always gonna be a winner.

Shes not getting stripped slammed or smashed with a hammer though as I hope shes gonna be an investment.

You old git, I love my stupid slammed estate with no PAS and its not a impractical as everyone would like to claim. My 306 is practical easy to drive, comfy and quick on anything but speed humps and pot holes.

That said the rallye has to stay largely stock as its an investment. hoping in 10 years she'll be worth enough to buy me a kit car, already going up in price.

Indeed Steve but thy have to factory standard for a collector to buy it and that's where the big bucks are...having cams is classed as non std so played with.

Look at a series 1 RST, a mint std one is worth thousands, a played one a few k

Steve can you scan the article for me please.
I reckon there is a good chance these will be worth more than the 205 GTi due to the rareness and the 205 rallye has a tiny engine so isnt as desirable. also the 205 and 106 rallyes ere built in greater numbers. look at a the ph1 clio williams, only a few hundred made and cost big bucks now.

Classic cars are a funny thing as an investment. Generally, as a car gets older it will go up in value after a certain point. The rarer, more iconic a car is, the more it'll go up. At the moment the market is very inflated since the recession because people have decided to put money into classic cars rather than ISAs with piss poor interest rates, so everything is stupidly expensive. I feel sorry for blokes who've spent 60k on E-type roadsters that will be worth 20k in 2 years when the economy recovers. However buying a potential classic can't really fail, I'd bet money that you'll make money on a Rallye in 10 years, but I don't think you'll see the 5k+ that 205s are going for, because they'll drop in price when the classic car market crashes like it does every 10 years or so.
