The island has just received FibreOptic. Are we just behind? but paying very little a month for 20mb/s is pretty awesome with some awesome download speeds on all my legal media! Currently loving this!

Was at mum and dads last night downloading some 'perfectly legitimate files' from the interweb, they live close to the towns' exchange and I thought I'd do a cheeky speedtest. Was amazed that their 50mb Virgin connection was recording 65mb/s!!
Barely ever get that 'actual' speed though, perhaps when loading web pages. It's crap at buffering video or maintaining a constant download speed on a file bigger than 1mb. Shocking firmware from Virgin Media frankly.

Disclaimer: The above is not to be taken to heart and is probably a joke, grow up you big girl.

I did there yeah. I can get 95-100 if I'm right near the router but since we've had this shitty VM router, wireless is terrible and following the instructions to set it up as a modem for my time capsule doesn't work. Wired, the mac gets 135-140 on a good day!

The VM superhub is complete shit for signal strength, if the BT openzone routers 200ft away change channel it knocks my SH off! Complete bag of wank, my old Netgear G gave a better signal.

Not that the iPhone 4 can take advantage of it (I think that's what you've got), but you can try activating the 5GHz Wireless N band. It'll be less congested and you should be able to get better signal when you're not sat right next to it.http://help.virginmedia.com/system/selfs...TYPE=Cable
For your iPhone though, I wouldn't expect much more than you have already to be honest.

Yeah, problem is the SH can't transmit on dual bands, so if you need the 2.4ghz for the phone yer f*cked. As soon as the AC routers come down a little in price it's getting switched to modem mode!

Exactly! When we used to have the small modem only connected to our time capsule, I could get wifi half way down my road. Now I only get it in my room because it's also connected to the time capsule. If I switch and use the vm router, it won't work in my room which is only 3m away in a straight line.

It goes off completely on some of the low channels (3/4/5 are all shocking), it's ok on 1/5/6/7/9/11/12 though, 1 and 12 are a bit low on signal strength.

The channel is more to do with other routers operating on the same channel and causing interference, so channels 3-5 being slow are due to others in your area using the same channel.

Nobody in my area uses those channels, the superhub flakes out using them, it's a known issue.
