SpeedTest; What you at? - ginge191 - 16-08-2012 What speed you on?? ![]() The island has just received FibreOptic. Are we just behind? but paying very little a month for 20mb/s is pretty awesome with some awesome download speeds on all my legal media! Currently loving this! RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - C.A.R. - 16-08-2012 Was at mum and dads last night downloading some 'perfectly legitimate files' from the interweb, they live close to the towns' exchange and I thought I'd do a cheeky speedtest. Was amazed that their 50mb Virgin connection was recording 65mb/s!! Barely ever get that 'actual' speed though, perhaps when loading web pages. It's crap at buffering video or maintaining a constant download speed on a file bigger than 1mb. Shocking firmware from Virgin Media frankly. RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - Mattcheese31 - 16-08-2012 ![]() read it and weep Ginger . . ![]() RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - cpikey316_ - 16-08-2012 ![]() Sky Broadband is ghey.... RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - Toms306 - 16-08-2012 Better than usual, reckon they must've got some fibre optics somewhere along the line now. So much for 20Mb though lol. ![]() RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - Tom - 16-08-2012 Cornwall FTW ![]() 2nd time bit better.. ![]() RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - Toms306 - 16-08-2012 That doesnt make sense, mine says slower than 75% of GB, yet yours is only slower than 66%......................but I'm pretty sure 3.99 is slower than 7. ![]() Re: SpeedTest; What you at? - kernow_joe - 16-08-2012 100mb/s superfast here, had it for a long time, living in the sticks in the middle of Cornwall RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - CJ_Derv - 16-08-2012 (16-08-2012, 11:33 AM)cpikey316_ Wrote: My sky used to be the same, they have you capped until you complain about slow speeds and if your running the old router white netgear one they are shite so get on the phone complaining and youl be shocked what happens i went from the same as you to 20+ Even my Samsung S3 gets better download speed than that without a wifi connection lol CJ RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - tsotd - 16-08-2012 slow.... ![]() RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - ginge191 - 16-08-2012 ...this is quite amazing; constantly receiving 'island trolling' ![]() RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - CJ_Derv - 16-08-2012 These are figures from phone in my tin buidling at work shit signal and middle is Girlfriends dads Bt infinity connection the upload speed people have are not even over 2MB this is rapid lol ![]() RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - cully - 16-08-2012 speed from work lol! ![]() RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - Scott - 16-08-2012 Phil you should be able to get faster internet than that from your phone! Had it set up exactly the same way for over 2 years and never had a problem before RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - Stephen - 16-08-2012 Mine at home was 0.2 untill we rang up and complained. Now it's 1mb which seems fast haha RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - Rippthrough - 16-08-2012 ![]() RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - Niall - 16-08-2012 ![]() Supposed to be 120mb Absolutely shite wifi. Need fooby to work his magic next time he's round! RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - Scott - 16-08-2012 You're using your iPhone though right? RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - Niall - 16-08-2012 I did there yeah. I can get 95-100 if I'm right near the router but since we've had this shitty VM router, wireless is terrible and following the instructions to set it up as a modem for my time capsule doesn't work. Wired, the mac gets 135-140 on a good day! RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - Rippthrough - 16-08-2012 The VM superhub is complete shit for signal strength, if the BT openzone routers 200ft away change channel it knocks my SH off! Complete bag of wank, my old Netgear G gave a better signal. RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - Scott - 16-08-2012 Not that the iPhone 4 can take advantage of it (I think that's what you've got), but you can try activating the 5GHz Wireless N band. It'll be less congested and you should be able to get better signal when you're not sat right next to it. http://help.virginmedia.com/system/selfservice.controller?CMD=VIEW_ARTICLE&ARTICLE_ID=437642&CURRENT_CMD=SEARCH&CONFIGURATION=1002&PARTITION_ID=1&USERTYPE=1&LANGUAGE=en&COUNTY=us&VM_CUSTOMER_TYPE=Cable For your iPhone though, I wouldn't expect much more than you have already to be honest. RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - Rippthrough - 16-08-2012 Yeah, problem is the SH can't transmit on dual bands, so if you need the 2.4ghz for the phone yer f*cked. As soon as the AC routers come down a little in price it's getting switched to modem mode! RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - Niall - 16-08-2012 (16-08-2012, 06:02 PM)Rippthrough Wrote: The VM superhub is complete shit for signal strength, if the BT openzone routers 200ft away change channel it knocks my SH off! Complete bag of wank, my old Netgear G gave a better signal. Exactly! When we used to have the small modem only connected to our time capsule, I could get wifi half way down my road. Now I only get it in my room because it's also connected to the time capsule. If I switch and use the vm router, it won't work in my room which is only 3m away in a straight line. RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - Rippthrough - 16-08-2012 It goes off completely on some of the low channels (3/4/5 are all shocking), it's ok on 1/5/6/7/9/11/12 though, 1 and 12 are a bit low on signal strength. RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - Scott - 16-08-2012 The channel is more to do with other routers operating on the same channel and causing interference, so channels 3-5 being slow are due to others in your area using the same channel. RE: SpeedTest; What you at? - Rippthrough - 16-08-2012 Nobody in my area uses those channels, the superhub flakes out using them, it's a known issue. |
