Right am I on the right lines that the 1.9 dt xantia lumps are part ecu'd?
Would a 306 bocsh pump fit straight on and get rid of the ecu side?

you can rip off the semi ecu controlled pump and bolt on a normal bosch pump no problem

When i spoke to the scrapyard, he was saying that the semi-ECU part regulates a lot of the pump and anvancing system, and 'ripping it out' or removing it can ruin it all..

I have a 406 engine, the same as xantIa. if you do get one swap the flywheel for a 306 one, pretty sure the dhx hasn't got timing marks for the standard rev sensor..

some people say their stronger engines but personally i think thats bull. all blocks were the same, maybe some variance over the years of xud production which would lead to some engines been marginally better quality but at the end of the day an xud is an xud.not like petrol peugeot lumps where they regularly changed alloys and other materials throughout production which resulted in some engines been far superior.

the main difference i would expect to find is a slightly different gearbox, it would likely be longer ratios as the xantia is a big car.

 what are you planning anyway?

Think they have better heads and ceramic coated pistons, like the DHY. But that's only what I've read on here somewhere.

the only way to find out would be to take a xantia engine apart to see if theres any difference but tbh i cant see it been likely.
if you think about it, the xantia ran from 1992 to 2001, pretty much the same production run as the 306 and i just dont see citroen going to any effort to develop the xud engine further as that would mean massively increased costs per unit. not what you would be doing if you had joined up with peugeot to share components with the sole purpose of reducing production costs

Very fair point. If they had problems with melting heads ect then I might believe it but other than that why would they do it especially during the last few years of production when there's a new car lined up with new engines.

why not just improve your current engine? unless your current one is on its way out/very high milage?

if your current engine is low milage id take that out and build that up and drop in a temporary one while you do so if thats the route you want to go down
