As some may know i've got an XUD in my 205. I find the engine noise/clatter really loud in my car compared to a 306 as the bonnet sound deadening is waffer thin.
Has anyone tried fitting a HDI cover to their XUD?
I'm running a FMIC so there's not going to be any airflow issues.
I just want it sounding abit less rattly like a modern diesel  well as quiet as I can get it anyways.

I love the on boost sound revving over 5k from the open filter and straight through to a tiny tiny back box
It's just the idle that sounds clattery, more than most 306's due to the lack of sound deadening
Thinking of putting something like this in plat of the original bonnet under lay

Probably is down to the lack of bonnet lining, but also check your pump isnt too far advanced because they make a right racket when they are

Could be a good option. Also raising your idle might help too

I think the timings as it should be, never been touched and runs spot on.
I don't wanna touch the idle as i've just got it dead on 1k

Well that might be something to do with it I know it can be helped when your running alot of fuel, but a 1000rpm idle will sound a fair bit louder than most standard ones at like 750/800rpm

I always thought the idle was meant to be 1000rpm
For some reason the RPM gauge won't read below 1000rpm and having a worn fork bush any lower revs and it's juddery, that will be sorted soon though when the weather clears

Ive stalled mine from a 5k dropped clutch before revs leads to a false sence of security thinking you have positive mani pressure... yeh darren it was a tooth out, which is about 8-9° or something

HDi engine cover could well work fella, a lot of the nosie is from the ignition right, which will be deadened a fair bit if you insulate the top of the engine.

That's what I thought... Will the throttle arm hit it though?

You get that jammed with govmod... damn wouldnt be good for your engine screaming its guts out
They are noisy because they're single pop injectors, you could piss about with the dynamic advance system and get it flat as hell on idle, or get the bosch that lets advance off with load.

Yeh well the clatter is just injection happening before TDC, if you adjust the pump so it happens after TDC you get much less power, but its fookin quiet...
