Head gasket list
#1
So going to be doing the head gasket on the 106 and there's a small oil leak coming from it. I've got a list of the only things I can think of.

- Head gasket
- head studs
- cam belt
- water pump

Do I need anything else?

Thank you guys Smile

Awesome Smile do you think the head will need skimming?

Get it checked. If its not overheating and you remove it cold it should be fine though

Yeah it's not over heating at all and only a tiny bit of Mayo and a bit smokey Smile so it should be fixed with a new gasket and all the fluids drained and changed?

I'd take it to an engineers to have it checked my local one doesn't charge for checking just skimming

Cool there's a highly recommended garage by me so I'll take it there and get it checked out

TBH those 8v TU's take a LOT of punishment, I've never NEEDED to get one skimmed, but if it's going to take some serious abuse it may be worth it.

I love these engines in these cars, I've managed a head gasket on one it 45 minutes before now (just ask Ruan!)

Easiest head gasket change in the world...

But yeah, if it's been overheated badly it'll need a skim, if it's not overheated, you'll probably be OK!

Awesome thanks guys Smile yeah the temp sits just under half way even when giving it some so it should be fine, hopefully there's a thread on here or 106oc on how to change one, never attempted it before

1. Unbolt exhaust manifold from head
2. Drain Coolant
3. Unplug Fuel Pipes/Wiring loom
4. Remove top Cambelt cover
5. Release cambelt tension
6. Undo headbolts

Literally that simple!
