Where to source turbos? td04 gt20 etc.

Hi,

I´m from sweden so excuse any bad spellingBlush

I have an 306 1,9td as i have tuned according to your nice guides here with a govmod and ground LDA pin. It has also a rewelded SAAB turbo exhaust that exits in front of the rearwheel until i find a bit more to weld on, decatted of course!Big Grin

On the inlet side i got an open filter but the intercooler is standard for now as there is minus celsius here now.

No one here tunes these, probably most because they are not so common and diesels older than -05 has taxes almost three times as high as a petrol making them ice cold on the market.

The reason i bought one is that a mate repair machines so he regularly changes mineralic hydraulic oil that it is possible to run these old diesels on which means free fuel!

Because of the cold i now only run 70% but in the summer 100% is probably possible.

I am thinking of upgrading to a bigger turbo and has searched around here and the options seems to be td04 gt20-25 and some more but where du they come from? I really want a turbo with decent spool up.

SAAB has gt25 on the 900-900 i think and they also use td04-15t with tubine 5 and 6, volvo uses 7.
These are quite easy to find here

Was gonna say that some of the saabs 900's have tdo4 15ts which would be a suitable upgrade turbo
I was looking at the Volvo td04hl 17t for a while but run out of funds. As far as compressor maps went it looked good
Found on the 840 or s70's iirc

Thanks!

Placing the filter there it sucks cold air and acceptably shielded from dirt from the wheel and from cars in front even though some dirt may whirl up there.
Another good reason was that i only needed to glue on a bend from the stock filter housing to the turbo pipe to place it there :-)

I managed to miss this fast reply while i was uploading the pics!

The 900 and 9000 has their inlets on opposite sides, Volvo has t3 flange but the turbine housing from Saab fits. A 5 housing Will give the best spool but maybe not best power.

If you want quick spool, GT2052-56 turbo's are damned quick without being VNT. TD04's better suit highly gov-shimmed revvy engines as the GT series flows more but at lower RPM.

As said though, you're in the home of the Ovlov, must be plenty there you can raid for parts?

Ebay is where you want to get turbos from. Look at whats fitted to vans.

Looks like youve got some good mods there. Running on free mineral oil sounds good but its not legal here but there is alot of us running on cooking oil as its alot cheaper than diesel.

Volvo uses larger turbine housing than Saab giving later spool, they also use Big t3 flange.

Where Do the gt2052 come from?

Do you use used cooking oil?

Land Rover TD5's use the gt2052, not looked into them so much though.

Use the above link, tell it what turbo you want, it tells you where to find it. Job done.

GT2052 was on loads of cars and vans, someone who knows a bit more about them Im sure will be along shortly to explain exactly what.

I run on cooking oil straight from the cash and carry. Its £17.99 for 20L whereas diesel is £27.38 for 20L and its legal here up to 2500L a year

I dont think it is as cheap here, we probably have higher food tax.
It is probably illegal here to as out government wont let anybody get a penny over.

How is the spool on a td04 compared to a standard kkk? And which housing size Do you usually use?
I have a 15t with both a 5 and 6 housing.

I even have one in the garage but it´s a saab and destined for another engine(i think) but i also have the standard t25 turbo from that saab engine.

I was quite interrested in which exhaust housing that was common when using td04 on the xud, saab has 5 and 6 cc and volvo has 7.

Just out of interest i may be wrong but on top gear in uk jearmy clarkson has said on several times its illegal to modify a car in sweeden, is it a load of rubbish?

It´s rubbish, it is not as easy as in the UK(probably the easiest in the world) but in most of europe modifying is illegal.

In sweden it depends on year model and the demands for the mot is quite high, forget to put in a big engine without upgrading chassi and brakes!
Modified car need to do a one off special mot but really it´s down to if you build a good car that´s safe on the road then it´s ok.

In my youth i built a saab 96 -73 with 16 valve turbo

would a gt2052 from a Volvo s60 be good? Or is there big differences between cars?

As long as it is a GT2052S and not a GT2052V then it should be fine!
(Either that or you can find a way to control VNT

Long time no seen but summertime means working on the house, 2052 seems hard to find cheap but i have come across another tdo4hl 15t turbo.

i have read here that HL has later spool than the L but cant figure out why?

I have searched but not found how big the exhaust housing are on the subaru td04, here in sweden they are named 5, 6(saab)and 7(volvo) after their size.
I have a td04hl15t with a 5 housing waiting to be fitted.
