Is there really any point in mapping a 1.8? Especialy with the fragile ECU's they have

Haha love it!

Oh if its a 1.8, no one will touch the sagem ecu. Their not as easy to map like the bosch and Magnatelli marelli ones. Only way to do it is go aftermarket Which could open up alot of potential but will be costly!

could you not just get an ecu off an xsi/gti, the bosch/magnetic mario and remap it to suit the 1.8? or are the looms different?

Looms are different but if your willing to convert to proper 4 point spark and add that blue sensor by the inlet cam (still dont know what it does) then yes you could do that.
