ABS light on
#1
Well 2nd fault of the car (it was on when i bought it, a couple of weeks ago)

ABS dash light is on, have had a quick read on here.

What sequence of fault finding should i follow? and what is the most common cause?

i can feel a pulse back through the pedal some times, and it sometimes sounds like its grating metal to metal, but not always. It pulls up ok and its very hard to get it to skid when braking.

Its an auto as well.

As Sam said, check all the sensors are plugged in, one in each hub, and check the wires aren't damaged. ABS light also comes on if a wheel has been rotated relative to the others with the ignition on, possibly checking for wheels while car is jacked up etc, but that would clear after a short drive.

Also check the 'ABS reluctor ring'. Its a sloted circle that goes round the wheel end of the drive shaft. Its what the sensor gets its speed reading from and was the cause of the ABS fault on my car.
