#1
Basically at home i have a pc in the living room connected to the tv and im using it to watch films from, I legally download films and watch them that way Smile
But i also wish to be able to watch films from the computer through the network on any other laptop/pc in the house... So im guesing i want to use this computer in my living room as a media server?
Sooo will this router be sufficient for streaming movies?

Or, download them onto the Tv connected pc and then put a shared folders called movie downloads onto a shared network between your tv comp and your other laptop/comp?

Not a "Network Nerd" but this might work?

How is the pc in your living room connected to the internet? Are you using cable/dsl?

our sony Vaio used to have a special system with senders and receivers from PC to TV. it was pretty cool and you could watch stuff on the tv. this was about 2004 when stuff like this was in its infancy. tbh it worked very rarely as it could never make the connection and it once lost the connection when i was watching star wars and didnt have the capacity to fast forward.... so i had to watch it all over again! D:

but yeh. if its connected in a sensible way through a router then you should be able to make a shared folder or something! Maybe some form of NAS would be the way forwards. That way you dont have to leave a PC running all the time. Should be a lot quieter and save on power!

Oh and If you have a smartphone download the VLC remote app and use VLC media player on your pc connected to a tv/hi-fi to watch your movies/listen to music as you can then use your phone as the remote - total win!!!

We have a router and a seperate wireless modem which complicates things because my mum is an ass... So basically everything is connected to the routers then to the interwebz.... But i bought that modem wireless router last night so hopefully with one router and properly set up network we're going to try and set it up a shared folder as said and see if we can stream movies with that Big Grin Just need to make sure no one can get at my files cos well the family probably wont want to watch porn instead a film lol
