See i dont find first and second too long for anything other than pulling away from standing.
Its a really weird but ultimately very cool feeling dropping to first gear for a tight corner to keep it on cam.

I agree 1st and 2nd are long but I've never really found it to be a problem. They have enough pull for 2nd gear to be perfectly acceptable at 30mph and 3rd gear from 4500 onwards is perfect for making progress on 80% of the open roads.
