Hey,

Looking at a eos 600d or a 60d. My main use would be pics but then i'd probs use it for a fair amount of 1080p video, nothing pro though.

Currently, I have a pansonic FZ7 bridge type and old skl Canon Eos RT SLR with a 35-135mm canon ef lense that would go on the new one.. pulled it out tonite and its just so fkin awesome! Brand new in 90's over £2k! Mint condition..

After looking at some home photos taken from it years back, and being absolutely blown away by the quality i'm tempted to just use proper film. It just has a certain something that i can't put my finger on. The slr also feels like proper 'photography' too, every shot counts and no computer trickery to make it come to life... anyway enough from me..

I'm interested in what you lot use, and .. if any of you still dable in proper film still? Ears all open for tips Smile

Niv.

I use a cannon 500D. The photos it takes are awesome and the video quality is decent. As in some other threads its just my editing skills that mean that half the videos never see day light! Still thats about to change. Cant beat a d slr in my mind!

Ive got the 600d, great quality camera, you get what uou expect i think, the flip out lens makes vidoes from low or high angles easier as you dont have to be inline with the camera. The trouble i have is the video size and format, big files and need converting one by one to work with my editing software. Not a massive problem but time consuming when uploading.

I'm tempted to get a 600d, have any of you heard of or used a online place called; hdewcameras.co.uk?

They've got the 600d at like £485 delivered compared to the usual £580ish. From a quick search, the hdew place have genuine canon gear but they are grey imports so there are issues with warranty with canon uk. However, hdew offer a 3 yr warranty - persumably with a thirdy party company in the uk.

If they can deliver it by friday, i'm gona be a pooor man

Also, with the 1080p HD videos, am i right in thinking you need a class 10 or better sd card? Ebay have 32gb class 10s for £15 delivered.. seems reasonable?

I think 32gb should give about 1hr 30mins odd of 1080p, using magiclantern to remove the 12min recording limit

the 500, 550 and 600 are essentially pretty much the same but with obviously a few improvements Smile yeh you need to have a fast SD card. normally has a rating. tbh you should get one with the camera as standard!

heres a good tip - have a look at vsco plugins for lightroom if you want as close to film as poss. Not just presets, but proper camera profiles for raw.

a lot wedding photographers use it to get the film look

.. It's fkin AWESOME mate!! Big Grin

Draining me dry though Sad just order 4x32gb Samsung class 10s and 2x batteries for the family holiday

The standard 18-55mm lense isn't too shabby. Bloody noisy bstard though for video. I've a 35-135mm USM f4/5.6 canon lens from the RT and has gd zoom with the 1.6x crop factor - fits fine on the 600d but it needs a gd clean, it's blurring photos! Sooooo much smoother and easier to focus with. Quiet too.
