208 1.4 hdi tuning options
#1
Not sure where to stick this.

Miss's has not long got herself a little 208 1.4 hdi and already looking at mods (im poss a bad influence...).
Anyways just curious whats possible with these engines. Seen a map will take it from 67bhp to roughly 90bhp but was just wondering what gains are possible beyond that. Not wanting to swap the engine and really just after off the mark poke.

Just a remap is probably best. Its never going to be the fastest and a remap will easily be the best bang per buck.

Think the turbo is right on the front of the block like the 1.6's so if you're brave enough you could swap that out for a bigger unit and map to suit, maybe one off the 1.6's if they're actually bigger

Yeah the turbo looks seriously easy to change. Not like trying to force a gt20 down the back of my 2.0 [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY] had though of recycling my gt15 into it. Turbos so small!

All the sensors in the exhaust kinda worry me as never seen so many.
Any ideas on how strong the blocks are or limitations in fueling? Struggerling to find any info.

As said not after top end. Just want it abit more nippy for a giggle

No idea honestly, doesn't seem to be many people playing with the 1.4's. BIG power seen on the 1.6's though, you can buy hybrids off the shelf good for 280hp iirc. Tbf just a stage 1 should really make it come to life, if you really wanna play with one probably better off getting something cheaper/older with the 1.6 in it as there's so many more bits and info available

Yeah ive seen some of those mad 1.6 builds and seems alot more potential then xuds and hdi 2.0. Kinda makes you wonder why people dont fit them in 306's...

Fair one. They didnt exactly seem a common engine by pug anyway. Wouldnt mind at least getting it mapped up and dpf gutted out

I think a lot of people get put off the 1.6's due to the turbo failure issues.. most of those are caused by poor oil and/or not changing the inline filter to the turbos so it gets starved of oil. Would quite like to see someone put one in a 306 though, imagine it'd be lighter than the 2.0 but it's probably a bit more difficult to sort out electrically

Your gt15 probably be a downgrade.
Remap it, enjoy it. Then be ready for turbo and injector repair bills.
Wishes for more power...

I swapped the KP35 out for one that looks to be similar to what is on your one there. TD03 or TF03 I think. I took mine off a 90bhp 1.6 Focus.

Clutch did not like it at all. only a 200mm one in the 206 so strapped a 1.6hdi gearbox on with a bigger fly and clutch. Hopefully you'll already have a 225mm (or whatever it is - been a while since I did it) flywheel in the car as that'll cope with the torque.

Think Steve said rail pressure was coming up to its limit and then shortly followed by the injectors.

I never was going for all out power, just something to make it a bit more pokey, which it drives spot on now.

Dr. Jekyll check this 1.4 hdi from Turkey I think, in the comments of some of his videos he says the setup...

It's something like:

2.0 hdi nozzles
Head ported and polished
custom camshaft
hybrid turbo with intake of gt2556v and exhaust of gt15 2.3 bar stable
remap
exahust
etc.

Impressive mate!! Big Grin

Cheers! All works kinda stopped atm as my own stage 3 hdi (306) just crapped out the injectors and began fitting an oil cooler [Image: d8b6649b069ea9ee370ac69bb74fdcb9.jpg] on the upside i harvest the stronger 076 injectors from local scrap yards so have a fair few spare lol.

Unfortunatley some knobs keyed the 208 tho. Looking at getting it plastidipped but this is only when gunds are free later. We more set on modding it first then sorting the paint

On a 63 plate you're going to be on an EDC17 Tri core ECU surely?
It's a different turbo to the older 1.4 too, does look very tiny.

Haven't played with one of these yet, but I've done a lot on my DS3 with EDC17, should be very similar.
I imagine it would be good for a safe 90 BHP quite easily, the 1.4 engines really aren't that popular for remaps because most people buy them to drive slowly and save fuel etc, so I doubt there are many of the new 1.4s that have been pushed past a normal stage 1.

Yes it shouldn't be too complicated to do the 1.4 if it uses the same ECU as the 1.6. Have a look and drop me an email when you're ready for it.

And for the stage 3 map, get a read of the ECU and send it over. If you've not already got it I recommend the 1.6 FPS part No. 1920GW, and something like the GT2052S is a good turbo. I can also calibrate in the larger MAF from the 2.2 136 HDI if you've fitted larger pipe work.

Sounds good to me fella. Will have to email you when i have the money then. The 306 is already sat on
- 3" intercooler
- cg paddle clutch
- 1.6 fps
- k&n with heat shield and direct cold feed (not a micky mouse setup)
- gt2052s
- full stainless straight through 2.5" turbo back
- egr delete
- mbc
- mocal thermostatic 16 row oil cooler
- r70

And probably some more bits ive forgotten

What could i expect from it?

These usually come out around the 180 bhp mark if you do everything properly and the engine is in good condition.
Drop me an email, I don't always remember to come on here.

Oh ok I see, is like me Tongue Mine is at garage atm and beggining to unmount the engine to clean/repair/prepare, but need to find some info's about 2 or 3 things though... If you can help me or steve, please i'm all ears!

So: What oil cooler and plate should I look for?
What diesel cooler should I look for?
How should I wire the FPRS? (mine have 3 wires all green!)

It's a stage 3 project looking for about 190hp and arround 340 lb/ft.
Last thing I'll gonna do is to fit HP pump (probably CP1S3/R75/10-1S, if I can find one, because is quite dificult get one in right conditions and I don't know how it will be to map Sad  )

So specs that I'm thinking about are:

Garrett Gt1852v
Intercooler 51mm (original) from a renaut dci (740mm x 200mm x 40mm), IC pipping 57mm
Downpipe 60mm + full 63,5 mm stainles steal exhuast system + 63mm stainless steal final backbox
1.6 HDi FPRS
Oil cooler with bigger lines (aimming for 6L of oil)
Diesel cooler and bigger fuel lines (12mm)
Upgraded lift pump (APS or Walbro?)

So please help me to reach PUGFEST with my project already donee! (and returning back!!!) Me and my wife are thinking about going there!  Rofl

I also need to find out a mapper who send me the map to portugal with enabled boost controller etc... And that explain me all I need to do to get the things done properly!! Tongue

Cheers
