Yet another what car thread...
#1
So after my 407 got pranged just before Christmas, I've been wafting around in a Vauxhall Insignia 2.0 CDTi, but I had the call today to say the 407 is a total loss, and that they have arranged a payout for me. Which has left me in a bit of a quandry, what next?

Basically I need an estate, preferably diesel, and thats about it. Budget is up to £1500. Been looking at an Audi A6 Avant 2.5 TDI Sport Quattro, but those of you that have seen my post on Faceache will have a rough idea of why I'm having second thoughts.

Another option is another 407, almost exactly the same as my one, but a year newer, and a nicer colour. Or I have seen a Saab 9-3 locally that's had a recent timing belt and water pump done, which is also mildly tempting. WHY IS BUYING A CAR SO DIFFICULT!?!??!!

Anyway, thoughts? Want something fairly reliable, as it's a daily driven workhorse and family wagon (kinda writes off the 306 tbh! lol ), so could do without having a long ass list of things that need fixing off the bat.

Any of those really. Audi is decent, I'd probably choose that over a 407 but a Saab would be fine too but just remember to check the usuals.. Is it a 120 or 150? The 150 has more issues but is a nicer engine.

Doesn't say (unless I missed it, might have been skim reading)

I am seriously tempted by the Audi tbh, it's a nice looking car, good size for my work gear and kids, 4wd and 180bhp. Itwasntme

EDIT: Link to the Audi - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/a...nce&page=2

After sourcing a Saab estate 1.9 (150 but mapped to 175) this year... Its a proper nice car. But I would say its not as comfy as the 407... Bit 'crashy' on the 17s.
If you get the Saab get the dpf removed physically and on the map and most of the concern is gone.
Wishes for more power...

Well the missus has voiced a preference for the Audi as well, so I may well just go for it, as long as it's actually still available! Definite plus points for me are the big engine, good power, 4wd, recent cambelt change and full service. Let's see what a message in the morning holds. Wink

Bet one of these would be very nice to drive, hefty on tax andfuel though, but would sound awesome for an estate! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322376423167
Quite a few nice estates on ebay under £1500, plenty choice!

Accords are cracking cars but beware the exhaust manifold on this engine, they can crack and its VERY expensive to fix in a garage!

Going to look at the audi at some point, and have messaged the seller of the saab too, but any suggestions are appreciated, need options! Wink

Id go Saab/Lolvo if it was me, if anything goes wrong with the 4WD on the Audi youd be getting a hefty bill id imagine.

Those audi are alright, proper boat of a thing lol.

I worked on one once, the fuel pump had died after some shit diesel, apart from everything being a bit fiddly to get to under the bonnet they're no worse than any other car to maintain. Not a thrilling car but they do what they say on the tin and they're massive

Thought of laguna estates? They depreciated a lot so you can pick up a really high spec low miler for around your budget on an 08-60 sort of age.
2l dci 150 brake, mappable up to 180ish stage 1
Current stable

Haven't really thought about much tbh, just that it needs to be an estate. Always fancied an Audi, so that's probably why that caught my eye. Saw the saab today, and it just didn't feel right, so I walked away. Maybe I'm kidding myself and my minds already made up. lol
