Engine loom fire
#1
Hi
Just fitted a new starter, once the battery was reconnected the engine loom over heated and caught fire
lucky I was able to disconnect the battery quickly. Check around no cables trapped or nicked. Any ideas? will it happen again if I fit another loom?.

Starter shorting out most likely, I would remove it and replace

stupid question;
was the main lead bolted to an earth or touching some thing around the terminal ? leads would only go on fire if there was a short....yet to see a new starter motor that's fked out of the box ??

I would look carefully that you put wiring on without the main lead touching anything except the terminal it attaches to.

I have seen somebody manage to put both leads with ring terminals onto the one terminal----that also burst into flames and also burnt out the starter as well....

easily test the starter for continuity and rule it out
