do fake alloys buckle easier?
#1
I'm yet to buckle an alloy but i suppose now ive mentioned it, its inevitable. I have a 5dr moonstone HDi its a very clean car and its on 15" cyclones which are immaculate like the paintwork.

Pondering buying some slighty dished alloys there not too bad around 450-550 with 4 new nankang NS-2's.

Just wondering if cheap knock off's will buckle/not be any good they'll only probably be on in the summer and then I can put winter tires on the clones.

current favourites are Borbet A's, maybe not what you all want to hear but they're a bit pricey anyway.

So much choice on old cars Big Grin

I dont think fake is really the right word. Sure they are immitations but the actual thing is that they are cheap... if they are cheap has the right amount of development gone into the wheel and have they been made of the right material? Even expensive alloys like Wheelmania Lions are very weak and can bend. You take your chances but I wouldnt go for anything super cheap.

Borbet As are cool and there have been a number of 306s with them in the past.

It really depends, as mentioned above there are a lot of more expensive wheels that are just as easy to buckle/damage than a cheaper wheel. If the more expensive wheel is forged it will be a lot harder to buckle. Although saying this I have a set of rays engineering forged te37s on my civic and one rim developed a crack for no real apparent reason.

Probably better off getting some good second hand ones then.

I'm not after something too silly just a little different see what pops up.

Although I could probably buy a few sets of steelies and old peugeot alloys and have a go at spraying them myself. Not done a whole lot of spraying before but at least it'll be cheap

Thats something to think about :O

I dont really need alloys just poking around looking at what there was at that price.

Old man always swears by steelies he says they "pop back" if they get bent

Yeah steelies can be smashed back into shape really easily, often don't even have to take the tyre off first unless you've really mashed it. Steels are generally lighter than anything except performance alloys too.
