Help with an Audi A3 vreg '8L' clocks

Help with an Audi A3 vreg '8L' clocks

This is driving me nuts basically. 

I plugged it in to vagcom and no faults showed up apart from temp sensor live short... 

The list of faults are all clock related 
-temp gauge goes straight to 120'c when you turn the car on and it comes up as overheating. Which is isn't. HG isn't gone. 

-fuel gauge has always had a mind of its own. 

- now the Rev counter and speedo have been playing real silly buggers recently

That's with the key out of the ignition. 

Today I've 

- redone all the earths in the engine bay 
-cleaned up the positive bar thing on the battery 
- put a new coolant temp sensor in today, hasn't fixed the 120'c issue. 

Now other option is a new set of clocks, but I've heard rumours you have to reprogram them etc is that Bullshit or true?

Dont get new clocks.they can be remanufactured. Google ac tronics theyll do it then no need to code either. Use em at work highly recommended

Most likely the clocks, you need to recode the new clocks for the immobiliser and also all the keys you use for the car. Handy job.

You dot need to code the clocks if you send it to ac tronics. We use them all the time. Its always the audi range no idea why. Well them and transits

Could also try BBA Reman. Clocks are always breaking on the Ford forum as well and that's who they usually recommended on there.

Not sure who decided to put the immobiliser stuff through the clocks in modern cars, daft idea tbh. Confused

Im pretty sure this is basically the same fault as the Octavia's of the same age had (Remember Liam having issues with his?) and im sure its down to a common dry joint. May be worth whipping them apart to see if you can see anything obvious that you may be able to repair yourself?
